Extreme Insomnia Due to Inability to Lie Still at Night. Desperate Family seeking Advice

Following on from my August 20205 comment, I have at last found a satisfactory (for me) solution, following a week exhausted by not sleeping at all! My consultant prescribed ‘Madopar’ 50mg taken after dissolving in water as I go to bed. Personally I tackle Wordle and Quordle laptop word games (language is my subject) at midnight, take my concoction of sleeping pills (including Clonazepam) at around 1am (admittedly with the dose of whisky), and at 1.30am take the Madopar. I sleep within moments of hitting the pillow, usually through to 8/8.30ish. Heaven compared to the old days, with night pain and restlessness disappearing. Incidentally the same consultant advised me to drop Mirtazapine as it was causing ghastly nightmares. We are each individual and respond differently to medications, but I felt this consultant had found my miracle insomnia cure! Worth exploration?

Hi, @PoetryK.

Thank you so much for coming back to share this - it’s really helpful to hear what’s made a difference for you, especially after such a tough time with sleep. It sounds like you’ve finally had a bit of relief, which must feel huge.

You’re so right that everyone responds differently to medication, but posts like this can really help others feel less alone and give them something to discuss with their own specialist.

And it’s lovely to hear you’ve kept your word games and poetry going through it all too!

Take care :blue_heart:

Thank you. Poetry is probably my best medication, though I understand it seems too sophisticated/inaccessible for most - and the fact that it rarely rhymes fails to fulfill the expectations of many. But again, individuals must find best solutions for themselves! Even if none/few read it, I find that posting it (i.e. perhaps one in a hundred that I write/are published), gives me a sense of completion.
