Flags flap along the pier,
Balloons struggle to be free,
Stalls with spades and buckets,
A kiosk selling tea.
Pull away the candy floss
That sticks fast to your nose,
Stripy wooden deck-chairs,
Neatly stacked in rows.
Children playing cricket,
Castle built by doting dad
Don’t you dare to wreck it,
Or he’ll be blazing mad.
Little sister paddling,
Big brother jumps each wave,
A yacht out on the water,
Bikinied girls sun-bathe!
Sun shines from an azure sky,
Parasols now fill the beach,
Stunt kite splits the air,
As happy children screech.
Cold waves lap your feet
Donkeys stand in row,
Waiting for a passenger,
And the signal he can go!
A dog runs in the distance,
Not allowed to join the fun,
Banished to another beach,
To enjoy the summer sun.
A pretty scene before us,
On a lively, crowded beach,
Now just round the corner,
Not much longer out of reach.
o lin thankyou so much ,deffo makes me feel beter ,i read it 2 times over, and it like i was there, just wot the dr ordered
I enjoyed that as well Lin
Well February is here
The shortest month of all
but this one is a leap year
So ladies you can call
On your loved one and propose
And the outcome, Well who knows!!!
Well February is here
The nearest month to Spring
With Valentines day approaching
Now there's a funny thing
Sending cards and gifts to those you endear
Do it every month not just this time of year.
You beat me to it Linn, was looking for something earliar for Ali and got distracted.
For Alij one of the first to welcome me in and for your assistance in advertising the lads fund raising I hope you enjoy this:-
The limpid pools in my mind distil the memory
From long before of holidays,
Of pastimes on a summer shore
Each golden summer’s day, long ago, far away
On safari I would go between the tides ebb and flow
I would wade with net and pale to catch a monster
Or maybe whale?
As I gaze in this tranquil space
My eyes peer at the place,
Made of stone and vaulted walls
That rise in grey and dramatic halls.
Its inhabitants glide from rock and yet
Avoiding tangles with the net.
Muscles flex and then hone
Living attachment to the stone.
Glistening like black jewels in
Languid azure pools
This haven between the tides
Enables others to retreat, from the suns emerging heat
Bladderrack serenely lingers like a hand with warty fingers
Below it seeking its protection are small shrimps that dart around
Looking for the safer ground
Velvet crabs their weaving dance
Leaves the watcher in a trance
Anemones and small fish weave
Why did we ever leave?
In this pool my childhood
Serene and calm, like the creatures I can find
A haven and some peace of mind.
This was written after a little discussion I had with BJS.
If I Won!
If I won the lottery
I tell you what I’d do,
I’d scream my little head off,
I’d cry a little too.
Whatever it would mean,
I know one thing for sure,
Money don’t bring happiness
But it stops you being poor!
I like to live in cuckoo land,
My imagination good,
So last night I won the lotto,
Numbers fell the way they should.
Money now no problem,
Imagine saying that,
Won’t need an old age plan,
‘Cos my purse has got so fat.
First thing to be done,
Mike can now retire
Leave behind sad children,
Another teacher can inspire.
After that, what would we do?
It’s really hard to say,
Buy things that we don’t need?
Go on a holiday?
What about the dog?
We couldn’t leave him here,
No kennels for his lordship,
We have to have him near!
Such a lot of money
For us to contemplate,
Nothing too impossible
Now never need to wait.
Pay off all the bills,
Feel relaxed and smile a lot,
Thinking of the cash
And just how much we’ve got.
No worries for the future,
It will be much more secure,
But I’d give it all away
If it paid to find a cure!
One day you’ll hear me say,
Don’t worry Ali j,
I’ve won the Euromillions,
A cure is on its way.
To Titan and to Bogman,
And to BJS as well,
To AB and to PB,
To Turnip and Marcel.
The cure is on its way
In time for us to know
Just when they pull my numbers out
On next week’s lottery show.
I wonder how many Lottery wins it would take? Also, the cure would be for everyone not just those mentioned!

A PLEA HEARD
I read the verse it was intense the feelings portrayed, vast, immense.
The thread turned from red to blue with thoughts, that made me sad for you,
Effects can be quite hypnotic, though they make your mind chaotic.
With inner feelings thus portrayed your pain and hurt on parade
EmotIons that stab, spear and slash, the flow of words pours from the gash
Bright and hot like blood spurt, you feel removed from pain and hurt.
Prose whose poison flows into the wounds, infecting every part of your soul
Spit the venom out regain the strength to stand erect and whole.
Communicate catastrophe let it out!
Don’t let it stand and stew and turn into a witches brew.
Captivation of the ode the emotion writ in the author’s code
There for those who know to read between the lines of calligraphic seed
Through the verse can be detected the bleed worse and infected.
Love and hate heated on the fire, that’s stoked by cerebral desire
Needs fresh balm applied a plenty to each wounds bloodied entry
My words now to be your salve, pour them over the pumping valve,
of you wounded heart, taken as a daily dose will help you mend and bring
peace my friend
One remaining thing to tell ringing clear like a bell whenever you feel afraid you will fall, all you need to do is call!
Would it be such a bitch if became very rich?
If Guinevere’s spinning arms
Wrapped me in her lucky charms
Would it change my life you bet!
Only it hasn’t happened yet.
Every week I await the call
Of the lucky lotto ball
So each week I pay a pound
To watch the balls go spinning round
One day maybe they’ll be fine
And come out in a single line!
E.venings getting lighter.
B.uds everywhere are swelling.
U.p from the earth come crocuses.
A.t last, the dawn chorus begins.
R.omantic Valentines day.
Y.earning for some warm sunshine.
The art of an ambassador is diplomacy and tact
To listen to another’s point of view with empathy
Pour oil on troubled water and raise self esteem
Make a point without scoring or destroying dreams.
These are the attributes of some that I know
not all have them and for this can be ignored
Too many times we get the leaders we deserve
Selected without election or the vote goes unopposed
Ignorance and bullying, undermine and destroy
Step up for your award let the frightened bestow
When handing out plaudits or promoting a cause
Look to your champions but be aware of their flaws.
If recognition is only for those who speak loudest
I question the merit and the decision behind it
This is a place where democracy stands proud
I will vote with my feet, leave, battered but unbowed.
Over to you lin
This month of dark and cold is also when sweethearts declare their love
This month of Eros and Cupid draws emotion to our hearts
The lover’s gods then shoot their darts.
When missiles strike home true, there is little one can do
Taken by your loves charms you fall into receiving arms
Arms of love enfold bringing protection.
St Valentine in his stay will bring with him his special day
A day for love and romance but other saints should have a chance there are many saints on many days who champion their god in many ways
St Feock of Cornwall calls for loves sake to care for others
Not forsake the adoration of loves great salvation
Daffodils and Snowdrops swell and spring whispers begin to tell
Watered by Aquarius’s hand they begin carpeting the land
A floral carpet quiet and soft means the lovers may stroll amongst flowers
In their walk they slip the hours.
So towards the seasons end the signs of new life start to send
messengers on loves wings to impart the songs that lovers sing
psalms of love do play their part piercing the mortal heart
O February why do now call to me?
Of all the people you have known or heard of in the past,
Who fits the role you speak of, good works still unsurpassed?
Who, in your eyes was qualified to fight for their just cause?
Who took the flak unflinching, whilst facing closing doors?
I’ll throw names in the melting pot, to see if you agree,
People who deserve a place in our world’s history.
The first person I will name was honest, brave and strong,
Kept true to her convictions, she knew she wasn’t wrong!
Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst stood for our voting right
But do women now acknowledge the suffragettes long fight.
Next I’ll name Theresa and her fight for the oppressed,
Dedicated and determined until the issue was addressed.
Powerful, greedy countries, their leaders taken to task
By this tiny, devoted Nun, who demanded action fast!
Two remarkable women, there are so many more,
Perhaps it is a subject to extend and to explore.
BJS - I'll try to come up with a matching poem soon!
BJS - will this do?
The shops are filled with roses, displayed to catch your eyes,
To give away on Valentine’s Day, take the lady by surprise.
Plenty gypsophilia and glossy, green leaves,
To tell her that you love her, show your heart is on your sleeves.
But you can save your money on expensive things like this,
The best way to her heart, a warm cuddle and a kiss.
Put your arms around her, squeeze and hold her tight,
Tell her that she’s gorgeous and for you she is just right.
No other in the world can match up to her charms
Tell her that you love her as you hold her in your arms.
But on the other hand, don’t let those roses go to waste,
Perhaps perfume or some chocolates would satisfy her taste.
A back-up to your loving words can never be amiss
So let roses, chocs and perfume be delivered with your kiss!
More than an adequate response me thinks! Taken my lead from you and bogman see what you think?
Hero’s and Villains
Sometimes it is hard to say which is which and who they are
One mans despot another’s star!
Of the bad there’s more than a few, from cruel Caligula, to the new recent tyrants
To the fold Hitler, Stalin, Papa Doc each of them ran amok
The outcomes seen as before in endless unrelenting war.
The killing fields of the Khmer flourish in countries everywhere,
Still the old excuses for human rights abuses
Evil still stalks the common people looking to control and harm
The wickedness still brings alarm, and dread even to the living dead..
Rape and torture hand in hand whatever the politics or demand
Although we individually oppose,
The world congress only shows its impotence and pious threats
But begets more abuse, their words in code and actions unfeeling, cold!
What a change in direction to concentrate on affection and the love those others
Display for their enemies and friends together these become this world’s treasure
Mandela; Ghandi the Dali llama all exalt to us calmer defiance relying on human alliance. .
Let us celebrate with love the opposition of the dove
Those who remind us of the higher path and guide us to none violent wrath
By peace and love we can inspire others around to reach up higher.
Its such a shame that such harm can be perpetrated without qualm
In this century new, this my ardent call for the youth a new reality
that the hero’s will endure,
Dictators rule wither on the vine
Justice become a shrine desegregated
for all an end to ideological thrall.
Following our discussion BJS
I make it five minutes to eleven!
"Haiku" is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.
Warm cuddle, big heart,
Loving man who shares my life
But does dog come first??
Two grown-up daughters,
Flown the nest on special wings,
Tied to my front door!
Try hard, do my best
Am a puzzle hard to solve
Pick up the pieces!
Here goes Lin no sure about this one
Lover friend hug
Tender sage she
Joy of existence
Ever present love
Lucky man no plan
Will that stay this way?
I hate winters dark and wild I prefer my seasons mild
been the same since childhood days
When other children with eyes ablaze
Turned their faces with anticipation
To the sky’s white precipitation
Obliged to join them I would go
To build a man made out of snow
A face of smiling coal
Chilling me to my soul.
They laughed and made balls of white
Or went sledging out of sight
Careering down hill they thrill
On ski’s they will not heed
They the peril of the breakneck speed
The snow flakes perfect symmetry
Was entirely lost on me
Snow is harsh and wet and cold
Not forgiving to young or old
A blizzard blows and swirls outside
Makes me scurry off an hide
Wrapped in my hibernation
Safe from the conflagration
Whiteout scours my vision more
Blinding and freezing to the core
While other no doubt have a blast
I just wonder will it last
THE QUEST FOR GAWAIN
Oh chivalry where art thou now and where do you go
For my days grow shorter now and my body doth slow
I fight my own quest and would wish you at my side
Where are you sir, are you there?
With me will you ride?
My quest for an honourable path will take in dark wolds
with your steed and companionship to the track I can hold
Your combat with the green knight of legend is foretold
strength of will and resolve a knight forever bold
So will you join me Sir Knight on this foolish quest?
To win a maidens heart and be forever blessed
We will slay the monsters there and see the evil slain
A triumph with the power of the heart, victory we will gain
This grail I will share with you and we shall tear the veil
That separates this existence from Avalon’s true trail
Once we arrive at her shores the lady will arise
In humility we will stand and ever in her debt
She will unburden bodies and souls
Advancing ever yet departing the vale of regret
Into the rising light and forever yet
In Avalon’s blessed realm we will ever dwell
There we will wait within the blessed dell.
