How do I stop this nightmare

Hi Juju

I am pleased you are doing well!

it takes a long time to get fully established on a levadopa regime.

Little and often is the advice we got...every 2 hours.

This works well for many PWP.

Apomorphine is a DA and often provokes the compulsions again. We were told to avoid it!

No legal firm will touch a legal suit in the U.K. There is a lot about the legal situation in the Forum files....ask Ezinda to send it to you...I am sure she will...

Did you take advice about the cancellation of debt for vulnerable people?

Stay strong...you are working through this with great courage.

Hi golden girl,

I am interested in the amount of medication your husband takes every two hours,is it Madopar and if it is what is the dosage every two hours please.

Thank you Anne

Hi Anne

He takes Sinemet.

The tablets are12.5/ 50mg.

He takes one and a half tablets every 2 hours.

His neuro is wonderful...his advice is take your dose as the last one wears off....then the gap is right for you.

Then start reducing the dose until it starts to be ineffective...then the dose is right...

It helped my husband enormously...there are no 'off' periods.

But it is a bit daffy getting there!

Good luck!

Hi Golden girl,

Thanks a lot for your reply, could you please let me know how many  doses a day does he take I am on 3 hourly at the moment starting and finishing at 7 think your husband will take 7 or 8?Also  is he on anything else,I am trying to reduce my levadopa it's Madopar I am on does the sinamet total 7 x75 or 8 x 75 only levadopa not the total amount.Sorry if this is confusing for you I have not explained it very well,!!

Thanks again Anne

Hi Anne

He takes 8 doses each of 75. Sinemet. He starts at 8 am, gets up slowly, drinking lots of water as he has low BP on getting up.

His last dose is 10 pm and wears off after he has gone to bed and hopefully is asleep.

He has tried slow release at night without success....he can't walk to the loo at night and has a urine bottle at the side of the bed.

I hope you can experiment and find what works for you....

Hi GG

I never heard this before but it sounds good.I will try it.

I did cut my dose in half awhile ago ,maybe I can cut it down more

One thing is activity is a element in this formulea

Thanks so much

john

Hi John

I hope you too can find a way forward that works for you.

Until a long-lasting levadopa pill is available I follow the advice of 'little and often' to cut the 'off' periods.

I agree activity is important but my husband has other problems that limit it so it's indoor bowls and snooker!

Do let us know how things go...I am a great believer in sharing to encourage other PWPs to look at ways of improving their control of this bloody condition!

Hi G G,

Thanks  lot for the reply to my post.I take a total of 750 levadopa during  the day and 2 c r at night which is another 250 and a dispersable 50 first thing.

My consultant is changing and I remember I read a previous post that this works so will definitely be asking about this.

Thanks again for your help

hi all, i have been reducing pramepexole due to the obsessive gambling.  The specialist prescribed Entacapone.  However there is a warning on these that warns about obsessive behaviour.  Not realy wanting to chance it under the circumstances.

Anyone taking this?

JuJu

hi juju

I have found less of relying on drugs best way.Of course they certainly help sinemet.I ve cut down from 800 mg total c/l to 3.5 with one 200 entacopone, which helps the most.I do get little obsessive but you can stay actice and use the energy for good things you enjoy.Snowmobiling ice fishing.

Today many things that are bad for us are pleniful.Good things are scarse, lol

I also have found I can rely on my cofffee in am no meds and feel good because we get replenished in our sleep

Your a  younger PD .It usually is very slow so dont worry to much.Im 70 now had a good life never worry about PD

happy new year all

john
