I think he meant ‘doing’ …
Hi Graham, how bad are your symptoms to be considering DBS? By the way, I’m in Torquay!
Hi Ness, it is a daunting proposition but once you’ve had it done you will be a completely new person. I had mine fitted at Addenbrookes, Cambridge but earlier this year had my St Jude battery changed for a rechargeable one at Southmead. I would imagine they will fit you up with the Boston Scientific which is the other type they specialise in, again, it should be a rechargeable system meaning that the battery won’t need changing for a very long time. Bristol are brilliant at what they do & you shouldn’t have any problems. Keep us informed on when you’re having it done.

Hi @sallyjt, I’m up the coast in Dawlish. With me, I had been on so many different medications for tremor that I was deemed as a good candidate for the procedure. The only thing that went wrong with mine was that the Consultants wouldn’t have it that I had TWO kinds of tremor, the Parkinson & The Dystonic !! It was only after the event this became evident subsequently my wife was not amused !! Such is life but I am here to tell the tale.

Hi sallyjt and others
Let me just say sorry for taking so long to reply. There is no particular reason other than I am very slack and and haven’t looked on here for ages, sorry. My medication at the moment is 6 mg of Requip XL and and 6 Sinemet plus 25/100 a day. I also have a Half Sinemet CR 25/100 at night.
When it is all working things are ok but off periods feature severe tremor, worse on my left side, and shuffling pigeon steps for walking. Other things like trouble getting out of chairs and backache from poor posture etc. You all probably know the drill …
I have had the pre op MRI and CT scans and now I am just waiting to hear from Southmead about a date for my DBS. I have signed up up for a trial they are running with a new device that doesn’t involve having anything in your chest or wires going up your neck. I will put a couple of links at the end of this for people to get details if interested. And I can confirm that all the people I have seen so far have been excellent!
BBC report on first person to get this new DBS gadget
clinical trial information (a bit detailed)
Hope some of the above is of interest …

I have read all the comments with interest A friend of mine has been offered DBS then we had lock down and must admit have not heard anything from him or seen him since, I did say friend but I only got too know him at our Tai Chi sessions What you are not told though when you reach the grand age of 70 DBS is no longer availble for you… with both having PD he asked me what I would do? and as he was 70 some time in lock down never have found out if he had DBS or not.
