New Medication

Tavapadon/Juvmo

Hi, does anyone know whether this medication (approved in the US) is likely to become available in the UK?

@Ed2 Apparently this Might be released in the UK some time soon ..

August 8th 2024: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted approval to Amneal Pharmaceuticals‘ CREXONT (carbidopa/levodopa) extended-release capsules for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. This novel oral formulation combines immediate-release granules and extended-release pellets, meaning that therapeutic levels of levodopa and carbidopa may be maintained with less frequent dosing to maximise “good on” time, defined as time without troublesome dyskinesia.

That sounds like just what I need. Hopefully the UK powers that be get cracking and approve it ASAP!

Hello @Dusty68 in the paper today. 8/10/26

A new pill for Parkinson’s disease is raising hopes of a breakthrough in treatment after a trial suggested it reduced the symptoms that hit sufferers’ quality of life.

The drug, called solengepras, cut the time when patients had “off” periods, when they felt unwell or stiff, slow or shaky.

Patients also felt less sleepy and functioned better, the scientists said.

Existing treatments for Parkinson’s work by increasing dopamine, which is reduced in the brains of sufferers, but those drugs may cause nausea, hallucinations and involuntary movements, usually of the limbs.

Solengepras works differently, blocking a receptor called GPR6 that slows down movement. It was developed to reduce the risk of such side-effects.

Morning mate.
Yeah, over coffee earlier, I saw something on the news on the ‘ticker’ news reel so I googled it and found an article on ‘Mail online’ I think. Great news but it mentioned 2-3 years before it would be authorised in UK, and that’s the frustrating bit, red bloody tape!
I’d be happy to just sign a waiver and start taking it to be honest. What have I got to lose

I read something a few days ago about a drug which is normal release mixed with slow release meds but I’m sure it was a different name, may be not. I’ll try and find it.

I’m wondering whether or not this could be an alternative to the Produodopa pump? I’ve been offered the pump but feel I’m not quite ready to stick needles in my belly every 3 days just yet. It’s a huge step! It was explained to me that the pump ‘irons out the peaks and troughs’ we suffer. I.e. off and on times.. It sounds like this new drug does the same thing.
“Let the beast loose”!

Hello @Dusty68 one big draw back ( no that’s not sex related. !) You have too ware the pump all day .. even in bed . Apart from a bath or shower .
Ok if you just sleep on your back … You also have a very slim tube you have to route from pump to needle .. and the medication liquid can burn the skin ?
Needle has to be changed every day .. it’s a simple thing and it’s a plactic needle with a patch over it . Have not one here to show you .

Here is the device to insert the needle .

Regarding the Pump (not sexually related either ), I hear infections are common too.
I also see it restricting me a lot physically My 4 yr old grandson loves to play rough n tumble with grandad, I’d miss that a great deal.
