Hi Sally and Steve I was in similar pain with my knee about 15 years ago the cartilage on the inside of the knee joint was damaged and I couldn’t beat weight on i.
The consultant said come back when your ready for an operation.
I did some research and found a osteoarthritis off loading brace that pushes the knee onto the good cartilage giving the knee time to heal and reduce the pain.
I also found that halonic acid injections help the knee joint heal and increase the viscosity of the knee fluid allowing the knee to float on the fluid sort of like hydraulic again reducing the load on the joint . I took high doses of glucosamine and chondroitin as well it took a couple of years but it healed .
You can get offloading braces on the NHS ask the consultant they would help his condition.
They also sell osteoarthritis offloading braces on Amazon but it’s better to get them fitted by the NHS.
Hope this helps and is applicable not sure on the spelling of halonic acid but the consultant will know and have it in stock.
My wife had the injections and brace on the NHS.
Thank you for the very informative reply to my post. Coincidentally I have oseoporosis and I’m wondering if the injections you refer to could be Alendronic acid as it sounds very similar.
I’ll take a look on Amazon for the knee brace for Steve.
Hi Sally Steve,
The injection I was referring to was hyaluronic acid used for osteoarthritis lubricates the joint and helps support the joint via hydraulic in effect the knee joint is supported by the fluid less friction and pressure. Thats my explanation may not be perfect but you get the idea. The cartilage can repair if it’s not continuously aggravated.
Hi Sally and Steve,
If you want to exercise with knee pain I found
That a cross trainer lessen the load on the knees and can help mobilize the knee joint without to much discomfort .
The cross trainer action is more of a skating action I was amazed I could do it.
Best of luck these alternatives are always worth a try .

Morning Julie … I am 71 years old and was diagnosed in June 2023. I have been on
Co-careldopa for about a year & find it a helpful drug that has improved my symptoms.
I find it good here as there are others with similar issues that I can talk to.
