Love is a sin.( Philomena's story )
making love was a sin in nineteen fifty one,
A child out of wedlock, a girls name in ruins
many went to England choosing not to stay
Devastated and broken begging parent to pray .
A Christian country built on a foundation of tears
belief in one God and the great power of prayer
The state and the church ruled all of their lives
omnipotent and cruel not forgiving or Christ like.
with a regimen of rules and dogma in the schools
A land of Saints and scholars run by ageing fools
What kind of mind takes and gives babies away
Wrenched from mothers to punish wanton ways.
Those that chose to fight ended up doing bad time
In Magdalene Laundries where love was a crime
Three years of bonding and believing the lies
To have him taken away without time for goodbye.
Motherless boys and girls sold for US dollars
Records were hidden leaving no trail to follow
The call of nature causing young men to grieve
Looking for closure and the need to believe.
We now know their stories are far from rare
There were many thousands in the great give away
Some happy endings finding their way home
These are the exceptions most are still alone.
You bloody bastard Priests you evil Nun bitches
May you burn in hell and be buried in ditches
For taking away innocence making love a crime
and taking from those children the gift of time
They came in the evening demanding the child
Tore him from her arms and laughed as she cried
She ran to the window as the car pulled away
The terror in his eyes she recalls to this day.
I know that not all Nuns and Priests are bad but there were enough of them to ruin the lives of many young boys and girls of my generation. Please forgive me if this offends your beliefs.
