Who wants to be first?
October is the cruelest month
there is a dearth of rhyme
perhaps september was too much
or we haven't got the time
October has come round again
For UK sunshine, Eire rain
Soon will be Christmas
With all it's fuss
Must start laying down the Champagne
Now that I have started us off (sorry Turnip!)
I hope you'll all come to the trough
With poems far better
To give me much pleasure
Of your verse I can't get enough
Did someone say
Mists and mellow fruitfulness?
Did someone write in rhyme?
Did someone shout to hell with this?
Did someone cry no time?
Did someone see blue sky above?
Did someone watch it rain?
Did someone ache for someone else
To take away the pain?
Did someone feel the wind blow?
Did someone call a friend?
Did someone count the pennies
To borrow, beg or lend?
Did someone wake to freedom?
Did someone feel strong chains
Draped around their body
So little hope remains?
Did someone put a light on?
Did someone make you smile?
Did someone bring your breakfast
To start the month in style?
No end in sight for someone
Who likes to write and write.
And why not in October?
While there is still some light!
Not South Wales
It doesnt rain
when it can hail
If there's a cloud
It thunders loud
One day the sun will burn yer bum
The next the cold will make you glum
No rhyme nor reason its just mental
when the weather's continental
I wont compare and judge as whether
It is better than uk weather
just to say it isnt news
when the sky is shades of blues
Oh boy have I tried hard with this one, not great I know but here goes.......
I love October it’s so exciting.
Apples and cider are so inviting
Leaves on the trees turning red and gold
Fall to the ground crisp, dry and bold
Kids running around with cold red knees
Gather up the nuts that fall from the trees
The smell of the logs burning in the fire
Oh look there’s a massive great spider
Clouds in the sky hide the autumn sun
Time to go and have some fun.
au contraire radar, very evocative.
There is a very well known song
That tells of a love come and gone
It likens love to months of the year
But poor October does not appear
In April love arrives
By September it dies
Of October's love we do not hear
We have to wait 'til April next year
My daughter comes home in April after seven months travelling - I long for April - she's only been away three weeks so far!
Lin I knoe exactly how you are feeling. First mt eldest son went off travelling and was away 2 years,he came home and daughter decided she was going off to travel as well, 18 months she was gone, then st year youngest son went off and did his thing, he is a home bird so was only gone 6 months.
I was glad that they were seeing the world but boy oh boy did I long for the phone calls and skype chats...we Mum's certainly worry about our kids, that's our job.
It wont be long till April comes around and you will have her back.
Love and hugs
Hi radz- thank you for your sympathy and your understanding. I appreciate what you have said.
Did you ever have a great desire to travel? I have seen many wonderful places but, for me, there is nowhere quite like home!
Entering October under restraint
Life totally controlled and bordered
Is everyone happy, well i sure aint
Although everything is sorted and ordered
Well i really don,t like being told what to do
My choices in life are all mine
So i,m going to do what i threatened to do
Stop all meds,make everything fine
Fine for the Neuros, fine for the Docs
Fine for all those who care
Fine that i,m washed up,dashed on the rocks
A lost person caught in last resorts glare
When you are controlled and told what to do,some people rebel against this.I am one of those people.I am not happy with my newly enforced meds regime,so will now not take any.
I wash my hands of the whole issue and am quite frankly sick of it all.
I am very sorry that you feel this way and wish I could do something or say something to persuade you not to take this drastic action.
I am thinking about you and am seriously concerned.
The Daily Female
Jane had crosswords about the crossword,
The one in the Daily Mail,
Someone had the temerity to complete it
The Landlord related the tale.
I received a text on Saturday morning,
Richard was suggesting a ban
There’s no way I’d upset the landlady,
In fact I’m a bit of a fan.
Someone had seen me reading the paper
But it was one of my own
There sat in the window that evening,
The seeds of impeachment were sown.
By return text I protested my innocence,
Requesting that the trial be fair
With Frank the foreman of the jury,
And Chris in charge in the Chair.
The whole thing came to nothing,
I was exonerated from the sin,
You see when they went looking,
The evidence, was there in the bin.
All tales like this have a moral,
And this one is just the same,
You may pick up the paper and read it
But the puzzle is for the pleasure of Jane.
This was written after the Landlady of the Swan said I had filled out her Crossword in the Dail Mail. She has said sorry and now wants to frame it and put it on the wall of the Pub. Hopefully not in the Gents.
This will probably be my only other post for October as I am having a month in glorious St.Ives. Hopefully if it causes a bit of controversy I will have missed it all and it should be calm for when I get back.
Any of you posters from that neck o' the woods
Boy oh boy I lit a spark
So why am I wandering in the dark
The road to hell is paved with good intentions
But there are topics you shouldn’t mention.
It’s quite funny but also sad
Some people like to think you’re bad
Some jump to criticise just to be seen
Others choose to shout and scream
Hypocrisy rules ok yeah
Doesn’t matter what you try to say
All they see are the first few lines
The rest just blurs and blows their minds.
I do not challenge others faith
All I asked was for God to debate
An answer please to many questions
Must have caused acute indigestion
Why are the churches empty
When so many upset and angry
If they put their bums on pews
Outside would form mighty queues
One thing that I will tell you now
Most only go for the fattened cow
A funeral, christening or wedding
Preferring on Sunday warm bedding
I know I will not be alone
Should you choose to be the first to stone
For me my god is safe inside
And from him I will not hide
I will never bow to the bully
Or proffer my cheek for him to sully
I ate some fruit from the poison tree,
If I offend Lord, then end me
i hope no-one minds a short verse on faith and science, its meant to be funny and not denegrating anyones belief (or spelling). If anyone objects i shall get it removed.
Faith and Science
Faith and Science can co-exist
a thought that some find quaint:
Science is all about what is
and Faith about all that aint.
LIN.....I travelled to most parts of the world in my working life, there are a few places I would love to revisit but like you nowadays I like the safety and comfort of my own home.xx
TITAN......you worry the life out of me when I read your poems, I hope things in your life get brighter......Please, please do not come off your meds without consulting your Doctor or PD Nurse first. You are in my thoughts and prayers xx
PEBBLE, BOGMAN, AB and TURNIP I admire you all so much your poetry is amazing xx
ANNA BERNADETTE ..i know the song you mean ....didnt art garfunkle record it i the 80s ...exquisite .....APRIL COME SHE WILL .....ETC...IS THAT THE ONE ? VERY SHORT ?
IT SLIPPED UNNOTICED
THROUGH A TINY SPACE
INTO THE CAVERNS OF
COURAGEOUS ENDEAVOUR .
THIS MONTH OF MONTHS
BRINGS ITS SOFT SPIRITIUALITY ,
ITS CARING QUESTIONING ,
ONLY STAYS LONG ENOUGH
TO LEAVE A MEMORY ,
AN INDELIBLE ,INDECIPHERABLE SENSATION
THAT IS IN DANGER
OF BEING BURIED , HIDDEN
IN A NANNOSECOND,
AS THE TINY GAP CLOSES
OVER THE THIN BLACK LINE .
