The Symptoms - Mobility difficulties
Bradykinesia (slowness of movement)
My hand seems to dwell,
Like a ship in a swell.
My foot hangs in space,
It can’t start the race.
The movement is swift when it gets going:
Like cranking and engine, once fired its turning!
My hand can still catch the ball,
My foot can still score a goal
Am I slow whilst in movement and motion?
Or is there a delay in reaction to stimulation?
So are my muscles, slow, in part?
Or just difficult to start!
Postural instability (poor balance)
Unsteadiness is easily perceived,
You stagger and fall,
Like a drunk at a ball,
Due to wrong signals your brain has received.
To help you perform balance routines, in sets,
Reacting to wobbling,
Like a cork that is bobbling,
Standing on one leg is as hard as it gets.
In life a stumble can catch you unaware,
Because the surprise,
Can bring about, your demise.
Like a horn from behind, it can scare.
There is only one thing that you can do,
That is practise exercise static,
Until muscle response is near automatic,
Fallen over with pain, no doubt! It’s the only thing to do
When you’re shaky like me and you!
Walking difficulties (Gait)
If I can take the first step,
I know I can take another.
It may be slow as Bradykinesia,
But at least I move, I discover
Then there is a question of balance,
The stagger, the freeze and the fall,
A slip on the floor, rolling about,
Fallen over with pain, no doubt!
