We are stuck in an absolutely terrible predicament.
My husband’s care is funded by CHC who have employed an agency where a number of the carers don’t have a clue what they are doing. The CHC keep saying the carers are experienced, well this is not true where my husband is concerned. Even the carers are openly admitting they are struggling.
In the meantime I am piggy in the middle not knowing which way to turn to get the proper support that is needed.
My husband goes to respite for 8 weeks a year, each time there is always issues. He has now been to 3 different respite places and each of them he has had life threatening issues, which each time has caused his Parkinson’s to deteriorate. The CHC want to put him into a care home permanently , but even his specialist says people like my husband don’t fair well in care homes. His GP also believes he will not get the care he needs in a care home due to me being able to pick up problems that other people miss which means he gets treatment before things become worse than they need to.
This whole situation is having a negative effect on both of us.
Wow parkywife1993,
You really seem to be between a rock and a hard place.
I’m sure one of the moderators can give you good advice.
I live in Cape Town South Africa so have very little knowledge of the system there.
All I can do is to wish you peace and have this sorted as soon as possible.
We’re sorry to hear about these recent challenges with your husband’s current care. Please reach out to our helpline on 0808 800 0303. They help with these sorts of things frequently and will have some direction to offer you.
Hello parkywife1993
As CliveV has said you seem to be caught between a rock and a hard place, and @jason.mod’s suggestion that you contact the helpline is a good one.
There is an advocacy charity called POWhER . I don’t know if or how they may be able to help but it might be worth making contact and sounding them out.
Good luck and please let us know how you are getting on when you can
Tot
