Sudden drop in function

Hi Everyone

Re Azilect v Rasagaline generic argument-

I asked consultant for Azilect to see if it would help reduce my freezing and improve my gait initiation. In December I got a prescription which stated Rasagiline - pharmacy, quite correctly, gave me a generic - manufactured by Synthon in Spain. This did improve movement slightly In the mornings, but by about 2pm it wore off. So, when I saw consultant In Mid January I managed to persuade him to prescribe AzIlect as named drug. I have been taking this for last two weeks. While it is no miracle cure, I am sure it lasts longer !  Am now about to email him a request for a repeat prescrip of Azilect, hoping it's benefit will continue to build up. My pharmacy have never tried to give me a generic in place of a named drug, although they did take a few days to get the Azilect from their supplier, whereas they had generic Rasagiline on shelf.

Yes, Newdidit, the generic Rasagiline is a tartrate, and has added ingredients of microcrystalline cellulose and tartric acid. Azilect contains Rasagiline as mesilate, with other ingredients mannitol and colloidal anhydrous silica. Both also contain another 4 ingredients the same. We need a chemist to explain the difference!

Sea Angler, if my consultant won't play ball, I will use your cola analogy- brilliant!

For info, my current meds are - 7.45am Madopar dispersible, 8.30am Azilect 1mg, Madopar 100/25, and Entacapone, and at 11.30am, 2.30pm, 5.30pm Madopar 100/25 and Entacapone, 8.30 pm Madopar 100/25, 10.00pm Madopar CR, 4am Madopar 50/12.5. To me this seems like an awful lot of drugs, but if I try to reduce it or extend the 3hourly interval my symptoms kick in ( neck stiffness, can't walk safely if at all, internal shakiness ) and the next lot of drugs just fails to be effective. My consultant says not to worry unless get dyskenesia. Haven't yet!

Hi Gus

My generic Rasagiline were made by Synthon, white oval shaped, with R9SE on one side and a 1 on the other side.

As Newdidit says, the Azilect made by Teva are round white, with GIL and 1 on one side and plain other side.

Certainly need to make sure Azilect is named on  prescrip!

PS.     don't want to hijack the thread Gus, but is young Albert's leg OK?

hello newdidit   ...do you think your main cause is because you overdoing it ? i do,maybe see your specialist and review your meds... take it steady if poss . good luck .Mike

Hi newdidit mike could be right we all have good days and bad ones for me the winter is when I struggle more give me nice dry summer any day.

We have to pace ourselves like my sleep pattern is terriable I get between 4 to 6 hrs per night and that is on sleepers but every 2 months or so my body gets so tired it just shuts down and will take 8 hrs plus. And I do not work anymore i can't manage regular hrs because I become so irritable with tiredness I then get stressed and that is the worse ting for parkys like us. Try to pace yourself hope this helps let us know.
