The Unknown Territory

I am getting concerned. I am suddenly finding myself sinking. I promised I wouldn’t let it get me down, but now, with the arrival of this year’s spring and longer, lighter days, and warm sunshine, instead of it lifting me out of the winter blues it’s driving me down.

For the past week, all I’ve done is spiral downwards into the “what might have been”, what I’d planned for my later years. And this sure as hell ain’t it. I’m trying not to go there, but it’s overwhelming and I don’t know what I can do. I have a video conference with my doctor next week.

All I can do is think of what I would have / should have been doing with my retirement. I feel selfish and mean, for others are worse off than me, but I can’t help it. Thank you for listening.

Good morning Artgreek … You & I are on the same page. On my 70th birthday I had planned on going on a walking holiday to New Zealand, staying maybe a month.
I’ve been before & love it. It would be impossible now. I suppose I cling to the ridiculous hope that I might get better.

Due to Parkinson’s I had to give up golf but still have my golf clubs sitting in a corner in my bedroom torturing me.

I’m seeing a top neurologist specialising in Parkinson’s next Thursday privately. Having not played indoor bowls or done anything for 11 days I’m feeling pretty good at the moment. I’ve even slept quite well.

Best of luck to you.

Best wishes

Hi Artgeek,
This could be me writing your post!
I have recently been away for a lovely few days holiday and I love the spring/summer sitting in the garden. So I shouldn’t be feeling so down,
but my symptoms are getting steadily worse and I rely heavily on my husband for help. Having been very independent this is hard for me and I worry that he will find it a real chore in the future.
Everyone says you have to keep plodding on and keep active but they don’t know what we are having to cope with each day and I just want to say ‘ you try living with PD’ and see how you feel!!
It’s so good that we can have a rant on this forum!
Have you tried joining the thread here on Your favourite song? I have and I have listened to lots of great songs.

Keep on moaning on here if it helps!
Best wishes
Dawn
