About to be diagnosed

I am expecting to be diagnosed at my next meeting with my neurologist in 2 weeks time and wondered if anyone could tell me how much I can expect my motor insurance to increase by. I am 65 and have paid £180 for the present year.

Thank you

Hi Rob. You need to tell your insurance company that you have Parkinson’s but they are not allowed to increase your insurance premium because of your diagnosis.

Hello Rob28 … It should not go up at all, at least mine didn’t. You do have to inform the DVLA but as far as I am aware you do not have to tell your motor insurance company, although probably best to. My motor insurance company [LV Insurance] told me I did not need to tell them.

Any questions please ask.

“You should also inform the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) if you drive in England, Scotland, or Wales, or the DVA in Northern Ireland. You have a legal duty to tell them about any condition that might affect your ability to drive safely, even if you haven’t been officially diagnosed. You’ll need to fill out a form with more information about your condition and your doctors and specialists. The DVLA will use this information to decide if you’re fit to drive, and may recommend adaptations to your vehicle. They could also decide to restrict your license, make it valid for a shorter period, or require you to stop driving”.

Best wishes

Hi rob, we were told to inform dvla and insurers. No change to annual rate, they just log the details. One less thing to worry about. Take care and welcome to forum

Thanks everyone. Some good news at last.
