Adaptive clothing

My father has Parkinson’s and has also had several stokes in the past. Consequently he is really struggling with getting dressed and using the toilet. Does anyone know where I can find trousers and shirts with magnetic or Velco fastenings. I have found a couple of companies but a single shirt was £82!

Thanks.

Check out silverts com they have magnetic shirts and Velcro elastic trousers specifically for Parkinson that are a lot more reasonable than £82 and ship to the UK. My dad swears by their magnetic button downs total game changer for him after his stroke. Hope that helps :+1:

My husband has Parkinsons.

I got him some corduroy trousers with a velcro fly from Able Clothing. Not sure they’re a complete success, but they might work for you?

He likes the trousers from Chums - they don’t have velcro, but he manages better with them.

Hope this helps

@Curiousmama Hi, my father in law had PD, now my hubby also suffers with it. I am quite handy, so I used to sew velcro where the buttons went and resewed the buttons on top, if you are ok with a sewing needle or know someone who is this may be helpful.

As for the trousers they can be adapted as well with longer strips of velcro?

You’re right — a lot of adaptive clothing is way too pricey. A few more affordable options:

  • Adaptawear and The Able Label both have Velcro-fastened shirts and trousers at lower prices than £82.

  • MagnaReady also does magnetic shirts that are easier to manage.

  • For budget options, elastic-waist trousers plus simple Velcro button covers can work really well too.

Hope that helps a bit — it’s tough finding good adaptive clothing that isn’t overpriced.
