Am I next?

well my grandmother had Parkinsons and 3 years ago husband was diagnosed with it and what we suspected for the past year my Dad has now also been diagnosed with it! Poor dad, he had quadruple by pass, stopped smoking and had already had 2 cancer scares, so this is nothing for him.

I suppose now my brother and I need to be on the lookout for it too? At least I know what to look out for.

Hi SwissMiss,

From what I have heard genetic Parkinson's is quite rare.  However, maybe a word with your GP or your Dad's consultant would be helpful.

Good Luck

Hi SwissMiss,

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis after all he's been through. As Sue B says above it is extremely rare for people to pass on Parkinson's to their children.

You might find our information sheet which looks at whether Parkinson's runs in families, and whether there is any genetic test helpful to answer some of your questions.

Best wishes,

Joanne
