Amantadine alternatives?

Hi

Around 18 months to 2 years ago, I was prescribed Amantadine to counteract dyskinesia brought on by a large daily dose of Co-careldopa spread across the day.

Shortly after I started taking this (100mg twice daily) I was getting regular bouts of light headedness, feeling dizzy and faint, regular erratic heartbeat and most concerning, random chest pain in the form of a dull ache.

I went to see my GP who inevitably sent me straight to A&E. Long story short, between then and now and lots of ECG traces and discussions with several Dr’s about the possibility of Amantadine being the cause, I eventually saw a Cardiologist last week who dismissed my theory of cause. However he did an ultrasound of my ticker and I did the treadmill test. I’m pleased to say I passed all with flying colours and declared very fit all considered. But as my family has a history of Angina, he prescribed a cocktail of drugs to treat Angina despite not being diagnosed with it  So I started taking them as advised but stopped after a week because they had no effect on my chest pain, erratic heartbeat and etc. but made me feel lousy.

So, I tested my theory and weened myself off Amantadine and guess what, chest pain gone, erratic heartbeat gone, light headedness and postural hypotension gone.

Unfortunately my Dyskinesia has worsened. I’m awaiting a callback from my PD Nurse but wondered if there are any alternatives to Amantadine?

Cheers

D
