Hello, a freind of mine has parkinsons and is on dopamine. He wants to come off the dopamine and go onto amino acid sent from america. He lives in scotland, the nhs wont help him. Has anyone had any experience with doing this? Is there a facility he can go to make the transition from dopamins to aminos? Aparently somone medically minded has to liason one a day with a doctor in america over the phone or skype whathave you for a period between one and three weeks whilst the body sorts out the transition. Any intell would be greatly apreciated. Thanks guys.

amino acid therapy does not replace l dopa but suppliments it
Hi @Lamper,
I hope all is well.
If your friend’s doctor has advised against this then he should definitely follow their advice and explore alternative medications with his GP or Parkinson’s nurse. Our helpline advisers are very knowledgeable in dopamine and other forms of Parkinson’s related medication and can offer you a lot more information on amino acids. Please give them a call on 0808 800 0303 or email them at [email protected].
Best wishes,
Reah
