My mother has started to have aversions to tastes and smells that she has loved before. For example, the smell of porridge (which can make her feel sick), the taste of tea, fruit squash, the taste and texture of bananas etc. Is this a common symptom of PD and does anyone have any advice please? Many thanks x
Hi @Daisydimple that sounds really difficult for your mum, and it’s understandable to be worried when familiar tastes and smells suddenly become unpleasant. Changes with taste and smell are common in people with Parkinson’s. It might help to mention it to her GP or Parkinson’s nurse so they can look at what’s going on and offer guidance.
If you need to speak to someone about this before then, our free and confidential helpline is here for you: 0808 800 0303.
Thank you for reaching out, others here may be able to share their experiences too ![]()
