Ayurvedic medicine - This has been practiced in India for 5000 years. Parkinson's symptoms are mentioned in ancient text under the name Kampavata. Ayurvedic medicine is a comprehensive system placing equal emphasis on diet, exercise, meditation, massage and herbs. One such herb, Mucuna Puriens, is gaining attention in conventional circles as its effects mimic synthetic Levodopa, with fewer side effects.
Hi Roz and all,
I have been taking Mucuna Pruriens for about 2 months. I find it does help BUT I can't take enough because it starts my shakes off!
I am also on PIP and whether it is to do with that on not I don't know but I have recently had to recuce my mucuna as the shaking was being induced even on what I had been able to take. For what its worth I think its worth a try. There was a very small study which showed it was quicker to start, longer lasting anad had fewer prwoblems than sinemet.
