Following my husbands death from Parkinson’s, rather than the effects of PD,. I would just like to flag up the support I am receiving from Carers Uk. They have created a specialist support service for ex carers recognising their specific needs after many years caring and the struggle/ fight to get the right care for their loved ones.
I wasn’t aware if this service until relatively recently but feel it important for carers to know that even after end of life this specialised support is there for you from this excellent charity
Hello
Very sorry for your loss.
I found your post interesting as I understand Parkinson’s Disease is not categorised as being a direct cause of death ? Have always been told that can die from a complication of Parkinson’s Disease but not directly the disease itself ?
That aside good to hear you have found support from Carer’s UK, is this support delivered by a local carers network group ?
Best Wishes
Hello Plus 1
Yes you are right the majority of pwp die from a side effect of Parkinson’s. However in my husbands case he received palliative care at home from the local hospice about 8 months before his eventual death when the brain and body started to shut down. This was not a sudden death. The cause of death was Parkinson’s disease.
The bereavement support is from my local branch of Carers Uk who recognise the additional needs of carers after many years of caring The issues involved are unique to long term care particularly the most cruel long term neurological illnesses
