Hi, does anyone have any tips for the best type of car to get in and out of as a passenger? Still walking, but with a stick. Will also need to be able to get a wheelchair in the boot.
Any suggestions gratefully received!

A VERY WARM WELCOME TO OUR PD FAMILY , HELEN4
I have had PD for quite a while, and we have had one/two cars, but by far the best when your mobility is an issue, we had a Range Rover Evoke. We had a ford focus , a nice car , but too low. just before my mobility was an issus,we had a MG sports car. This was just a bone shaker The RR beats all the other cars…

The reason most people recommend an SUV is that because of raised ride height for better ground clearance it means the seats are at raised height also which aids getting in and out of the vehicle. Other factors to look at are the preponderance and location of grab handles and how wide the doors are to open- those that open to almost right angles to the car body are best. Boot space or an Power opening rear door are useful for walking aids or folding wheelchairs when required. Parking sensors/cameras front and rear are useful since SUV rear visibility can be limited. The only snag with 4x4 vehicles is they often have wide turning circles. Automatic gearboxes can reduce the necessity to change gear frequently in traffic. Best advice I can give is to take a comprehensive test drive of any model to include all the destinations you frequently use including your own home to see if the car fits its environment with the new constraints that Parkinson’s requires
