I’ve been researching walking aids because I’m considering getting one to make walking a little easier and safer. The main issue I’m trying to deal with is freezing while walking, especially when starting to move, turning, or getting through narrow spaces. I’m looking for something that feels stable without being too awkward to use, and ideally something that can help with confidence and mobility without being overly complicated. After looking at different options, I found two products that I really liked:
I like both options overall, but I’m not sure which one would actually be the better choice for dealing with freezing and everyday walking. If anyone here has experience with either of these, I’d really appreciate your honest opinion. Which one would you recommend, and are there any things I should consider before choosing?
Hello @qwqe Freezing of gait (FoG) is one of the most disabling yet poorly understood symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD). FoG is an episodic gait pattern characterized by the inability to step that occurs on initiation or turning while walking, particularly with perception of tight surroundings. This phenomenon impairs balance, increases falls, and reduces the quality of life.
because it can go anywhere- woods, uneven paths, cobblestones. I walk between 3-5km per day, more on holiday. It weighs 8kg, the guarantee is 2 years I think, they have sent me one for free as I use mine a lot. It is a lot more expensive than what can be found on Amazon but I never use that site.
The model above has a bag and a cup holder and a stick holder. It is very easily foldable and there is no problem for air travel, it goes in the hold. Important to note it is only for outdoors.
Hello @AlexT my wife and I found out very quickly that a 4 wheeled walker is an accident waiting to happen . When she freezes up and her feet stick to the floor all of her weight goes forward, now normally she would put her arms out to the wall or door frame .
But if you holding a 4 wheeled walker your body weight pushes it , your not moving with it you end up on the floor …. Best have a frame with 2 wheels at front and rubber stoppers at the back .
