I had a lovely lady speak with me recently who had a brother that had Parkinson’s. He was recommended to eat Broad beans as they contain a natural source of lepodova. She said he seemed to benefit from eating them, but eventually it wasn’t working as his condition progressed. Not particularly a fan of them myself though
Hannah hello, I’ve never heard of that before but if it worked then maybe your lady should speak to the research bods.
My granny used to serve broad beans in a parsley sauce, lovely with gammon!
I like dried edamame beans as a snack, like nuts but less calories, as for increase in dopamine, they are supposed to but i havnt noticed any difference, i just eat them as they are a source of protein
My Parkinson’s nurse recommended both broad beans and sweet potatoes as dietary sources of levodopa. She also recommended a low protein diet with 80% of my food to be vegetables and fruit with small amounts of bread, pasta and rice, and small protein servings of tofu, fish, chicken and pulses/beans, avoiding alcohol and caffeine.
Fair enough trying to increase youre levadopa and eating lots of vegetables but going low protein will decrease skeletal muscle, especially as we get older. Quickest way to get to the grave and thats a proven fact. Hold on to skeletal muscle as long as possible.
