Looking to gauge opinion. Is clinical care largely based on trial and error in terms of meds management….. try a little more, try a little less, see how you feel, see you in 6 months to a year to discuss …. would welcome thoughts on whether this is typical. Thanks

Hello Silky .. With me they first tried two drugs I did not get on with. I finished those after 7 & 11 days. Then onto Sinemet which I tolerated well. They started me on 1 tablet a day for a week & increased to 2 tablets 3 times a day. It is very much trial & error as you thought.
Best wishes

Good morning
My wife was diagnosed over 8 years ago.
It was trial and error initially to get the cocktail of drugs helping. These included anxiety drugs as well as Madopar. Once the balance was correct, they helped with symptoms significantly.
As the condition has slowly worsened, it has been trial and error each time there is a medication change.
Our approach once she receives the new drugs is for us to select a time to begin trying the new regime. We try to select a time when all the support is in place and it is a calm period just in case there is an adverse affect. As an example we never change on a Friday as it is difficult to get any help until Monday.
Best wishes
Hi, @Harrym and a very warm welcome to the forum.
It sounds as though you and your wife have found a really thoughtful way of managing medication changes over the years, so thank you for sharing your experience. Your point about making changes during a calm period, with support in place, is a really valuable practical tip.
I’m glad you’ve joined the community and hope you find it a helpful and supportive place.
All the best to you and your wife! ![]()
