Hi all, my hwp is being started on clonazepam tonight after ct brain showed nothing significant, psyche doc believes all awful hallucinations and paranoia etc are side effect of severe rem sleep disorder( he has acted out dreams for years, nothing like whats gapoening now) . Has anyone had positive results with clonazepam ?
Hi
Clonazepam has stopped my REM-sleep Behaviour Disorder.
Regards
Doug
Thanks for info doug, my hwp symptoms have been horrific for 7 weeks now. But im cheered to read some oeople have been helped by this medication
What are the common side effects of clonazepam?
Clonazepam may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- drowsiness.
- dizziness.
- unsteadiness.
- problems with coordination.
- difficulty thinking or remembering.
- increased saliva.
- muscle or joint pain.
- frequent urination.
Good evening JandC … I was on Clonazepam for 6 months. Should be 2 to 4 weeks.
I would say that how each man or woman reacts to this drug can vary. None of us are the same. I would say that my experience was not good. The RLS I have continues as does the insomnia & other sleep issues.
I recently ceased taking my Sinemet as this has a likely side effect of my Insomnia etc …Sadly this did not make any positive difference.
What medication does your husband take …
What Parkinson’s symptom’s does he have …
Best wishes

Hi steve , yes i remember you mentioned being on clonazepam before and not doing too well on it. J is on madopar, 3hrly, he was on a low dose ropinerole and opicapone, they were removed over past 7 weeks, didnt improve symptoms. In fact he was worse. Half the listed side effects of clonazepam he already has every day! He has had rem sleep disorder for 8 years, all manageable up until 7 weeks ago when hallucinations and paranoia went into overdrive. They tried quetiapine, but that made him worse, of course removing the other drugs has made his mobility much worse too. Your still struggling i see, i suspect my hwp is going to struggle for a while yet. He is in hospital now and at least being more closely monitored. Its never easy with pd. Im hoping for dougs positive response to meds. How are you today ?
Good evening jandc … Not sure if I told you but I went to bowls on Friday & could not participate due to a strange light headed feeling & balance problems. My left leg from the knee down was numb. I went online I was advised to call an ambulance which I did. The two lady medics checked me out & wanted me to go with them. But I thought it might be a trick so I declined.
I did nothing over the weekend & played a league bowls match this morning.
I managed ok but now feel shattered. Earlier the numbness was only in my big toe but it has now spread a bit. But not as bad as Friday.
Like your other half I have a lot of different health things going on, then there is the side effect of those issues, then there is the side effects of the medication I take for those issues.
I was also on Quetiapine for a while.
Did you know Clonazepam is addictive but Doctors wont prescribe sleeping pills because they are addictive.
Best wishes

Yes steve, its the ongoing dilemma for pwp, getting diagnosis right, getting meds right, the dealing with all side effects, and obviously things change over time. Im glad to read you managed a bowls game, trying to stay positive all the time can be draining! But we have to try. I ordered a bunch of new booklets from pd uk, to refresh my memory of helpful advice. Thank goodness we have pd uk to give advice. When are you seeing your team again to review your symptoms
Dear Steve2
Thank you for your email of 30/05/2025.
I had still not heard back from the Professor of Nuclear Medicine, but I have had an email today to say that she has looked at the scan and she believes that the scan is not definitely abnormal, and that the semi-quantitative analysis was within normal limits, except for the P:C ratio on the right, which she felt was borderline.
I think it would be a good idea if I reviewed you in person at the clinic on
Thursday 19th June 2025 at 1.30pm, now that you are completely off the Sinemet and Rasagiline in order to see if there is any clinical evidence of parkinsonism and generally to review your case in the light of my review of the investigations.
Yours sincerely,
