Husband is on Cocareldopa, he feels so ill all day. Tremors increasing, right arm and leg, now so bad he cannot sit or lay still, sweating and feels like giving up. He is gradually increasing dose until 2 x 25/100 three times a day. Anyone else have this problem when taking this meds!! Thankyou to anyone who can reply.
Good evening Cyril123 … I’m 70 & I have Atypical Parkinson’s [diagnosed June 2023] & was prescribed cocareldopa. I started on 1 pill a day for a week, then 1 pill twice a day for a week, then 1 pill 3 times a day for a week. I then went on to my current dose of 2 pills 3 times a day, which is where I am now.
Did your husband start gradually as I did? Or did he start at a higher dose?
We all tolerate drugs differently. I would suggest giving your Parkinson’s nurse a ring or phone the help line here & speak to one of their excellent Parkinson’s nurses.
0808 800 0303 … they have helped me a few times in my early days with Parkinson’s.
I have not had sickness or nausea with Cocareldopa, although I think it causes me sleep issues.
Any questions please ask.
Best wishes

Hi, I’m sorry to hear your husband is going through this.
I’m on a lower dose and I get nausea and headaches, but these side effects are reduced if I eat something. I can’t tolerate the meds on an empty stomach (but I think taking them with food makes them less effective)
Sounds really difficult and I hope you find a PD nurse for advice
Good luck
Ali
Can I ask did you have tremors and have the meds helped? He started slow like you but have not seen any improvement yet!!
Thanks
Good morning Cyril123 … My specialist says I have a “resting tremor”. I also recently had a heart ultrasound. The technician doing the ultrasound [who didn’t know I had Parkinson’s] said I had a “tremor”. I am not particularly aware of it. I have started to shake when I first wake up in the morning but it stops instantly. My most troublesome shaking is when I attempt to carry anything when other people are around, like a cup of coffee or a plate of food. I also shake when I’m eating [raising my fork or spoon]. If I’m carrying a cup of coffee I shake uncontrollably & am frozen to the spot & cannot move. In this instance I will need help.
Does the cocareldopa I take help my shaking? Perhaps my shaking would be worse if I was not taking my medication. I’ve been on it for 6 months plus. The only way I’d know is if I stopped taking the medication. I suspect it does help.
Best wishes

Steve2, i have an occasional tremor in my left hand that definitely gets worse when i get anxious, my doctor gave me sertraline and this helps.
Hello DJ … Thanks for the tip. My Parkinson’s nurse put me on another 3 pills on Wednesday. That makes 17 pills a day that I now take & a further 2 pills that I’m supposed to take but I don’t. You can usually add a couple of Paracetamol a day to that score. So I’ll see how the new pills go.
Best wishes
Steve2 the Rattler.
I was diagnosed January but my GP who knew what I have got couldnt start treatment until the specialist said so. So, I waited 9 months for the appointment and got diagnosed. PD Atypical, I am now on 400 mg of co-careldopa as 4 x 100mg. My arm and hand tremors stopped after about 4 weeks although I noticed an improvement the first week. No side effects except some sleep disturbance and low level headaches. Hope it helps. Fagus
Hi Cyril, speak to your Parkinsons nurse or Neurologist and ask them what to do. You should be able to leave a message for the Neurologist with his/her’s secretary who you get by phoning switch board at your hospital if you don’t have the number. It should make you feel better. If you can’t get through speak to your GP practice while not specialist they will be able to give you advice.
Hope it all settles,
Podd
Seeing neurologist on 4 Dec hopefully tremor starts improving by then, can see Christmas being a no go this year!!
