I have been taking 2 tablets 3 times a day since I was diagnosed 2 months ago ,
I don’t notice any difference in my symptoms before or after taking a dose , surely I should ?

Good evening Jane … I was diagnosed in June 2 years ago. The first two medications I was on did not work either. The third medication I tried did work and I am still on it.
We are all different and some medications work for some of us but not for others.
Finding the medication that works is trial & error, there is no other way. So if I were you I would contact my Parkinson’s team, inform them the first drug did not work and ask to try another drug. 3 months is a long enough time to know IMHO. Your team will suggest slowly coming off the drug. We cannot just stop.
If none of these drugs work then you may have been misdiagnosed and not have
Parkinson’s.
Any questions do ask.
Best wishes

Thanks for your advice , I will contact my nurse . It has been on my mind that not having had a scan it could be something other than Parkinson’s
Thanks Jane … By the two scans I think you mean the datscan that measures the amount of dopamine in your brain & the brain mri scan that is designed to rule out other issues or show vascular Parkinson’s.
I have had both and the results have been inconclusive, so in hindsight not a lot of reason to have had them. Whatever the scan results you will be going on Parkinson’s medication.
The fact that Parkinson’s medication helps your symptoms proves you have Parkinson’s.
Best wishes

I have been taking Madopa, also Sinemet. Neither medication has given me the relief from symptoms that I was expecting. Maybe a slight easing of symptoms with Sinemet.
Is there anything else I should be trying? Internet gurus are saying that only exercise improves balance. Is this true?
Hi, @Nigel27. I’m sorry to hear that you’re not getting the relief you hoped for from your current medication.
Levodopa (Madopar/Sinemet) is usually the first treatment, but it doesn’t work the same way for everyone. Sometimes it’s about adjusting the dose, changing the timing, or adding another medication alongside it. That’s definitely something to review with your Parkinson’s nurse or neurologist.
On balance - exercise really does have strong evidence behind it. It won’t replace medication, but it can genuinely improve balance, strength and confidence. Things like physiotherapy, tai chi, walking football, boxing-style classes and strength work can all help.
We’ve got clear info about medication and exercise on the pages linked.
And if you’d like to talk it through, our helpline is here on 0808 800 0303.

Ive been taking madopar since december it stopped my vacantcepisodes abd initially my tremors but the tremors are back am at the neurologist on tuesday so I’m going to see if he can give me somethingvto help and for dizziness
Thank you for sharing, @Carol_White.
It’s good that you’ve got a neurology appointment coming up - it sounds like the right time to talk through the return of the tremor and the dizziness. Sometimes medication doses or timings need adjusting, so hopefully your neurologist can help find what works best for you.
Should you need any support from us, please reach out. Our helpline is free and confidential: 0808 800 0303.
