Color Vision Challenges and Parkinson's: Looking for Insights

Hi Folks, (34 and living with Parkinson’s)

Lately, I’ve been noticing some difficulty distinguishing certain colors, especially in low light or on websites with poor color contrast. I’m beginning to wonder if this might be related to Parkinson’s. I’ve read that Parkinson’s can sometimes affect visual perception, so I’m curious if anyone else has experienced similar challenges with color vision.

It’s starting to impact daily tasks, like interpreting charts or navigating apps that rely heavily on color-coded elements. I haven’t been formally diagnosed with color vision deficiency, but I’d like to explore ways to better understand and manage this issue.

Has anyone else dealt with color vision challenges alongside Parkinson’s? Are there specific tools, tests, or adjustments that have worked well for you?

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences I really appreciate it!

Hi JKColon,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for reaching out. Hopefully, our wonderful members will be able to share their experiences with you. In the meantime we wanted to share some information that we have on Parkinson’s and colour vision.

Some people with Parkinson’s do have difficulty telling the difference between certain colours. This problem may be worse for shades of blue or blue/green, and you might find that your colour vision improves with Parkinson’s medication.

We have more information over on our website, including where you can find more information and support here: Eye problems | Parkinson's UK
