Compression stockings

I’m suffering from swollen feet, ankles, legs and knees. I think this may be because I have tried to increase the dosage of Sinemet. I am advised to wear compression stockings. That’s fine but which type should I get?? Can anybody help me please? I’m rapidly giving up the everlasting battle with this horrible disease

Hello Moddy … I am 71, diagnosed in June 2023. I am also on Sinemet. I have had swollen feet and take Amitriptyline for it. The only issues I got from taking Sinemet is fairly severe sleep issues. Insomnia, nightmares, RLS etc …

Best wishes

I assume you have gone back to your original dose of medication and will contact you GP for guidance. If you have a BP machine check your blood pressure.

If you have riser recliner raise your feet while sitting and a electronic foot stimulators can help.

Try not to worry and see if things settle down.

Hi Moddyrol,

We would recommend reaching out to your GP and Parkinson’s Nurse to discuss this and they will be able to make recommendations to your medication if this is what you’re experiencing.

We’re sorry that we’re unable to advise about compression socks but we hope other members of the community can share their experiences.

Best wishes

Regarding compression stockings, yes there are many to choose from. You specifically say compression stockings, so do you mean thigh high or below knee? If below knee, then you have the choice of a below knee stocking, or a below knee sock (thicker material).

Its very much personal preference which to choose. Ive recently been for my leg scan and my circulation is good. I wear either Sigvaris compression socks or Activa. They’re both very popular. You can see them here:

Hope this information helps
