Consolidation of Services

Why are there so many departments for things at the local council.? Maybe it’s just my local authority. Yours might be different. I don’t know.
I have been applying for a variety of assistance and have to go through a different department for each thing. So I’m on a waiting list to be assessed for bathroom modifications. I’m on another waiting list to get grab rails, Another waiting list for a key safe. and I’ve just been told that today I’m on another waiting list to be assessed for ramps. Ultimately all of these answer back to the same office but each one has to be assessed by a different department. I’m also waiting on direct payments assessment, now going on over a year.

Surely consolidating these requests would not only ease the burden on individuals, but save taxpayer’s money and reduce council spending?

The lady who came out to see me today for grab rails said she was very concerned as to how long I am having to wait so my case has been marked as urgent.

My husband was accessed by the Community Rehab Team under one appointment and he now has grab handles in the shower and one back door, a toilet frame, raised chair and a rail by the door leading into the garden. They also organised Parkinson Physio for him which he attends once a week so it looks as though our council is fairly joined up!

Unless it has changed out of all recognition everything you have listed would be assessed by the Occupational Therapy team part of the Adult Care Service at my local council, the exception being the assessment for direct payments which is usually carried out by a social worker.
