Has anyone had their medication changed from caraldopa to something else due to constant headaches. If so what was it changed to and did it work. I have been suffering for weeks now with no let up.

Hi there, @Dave3. That sounds really difficult, especially when it’s been going on for a while. Headaches can sometimes be linked to Parkinson’s medication like co-careldopa for some people, but it’s important to get this checked so the cause can be properly looked into.
Some people do have their medication adjusted or changed if side effects are ongoing, but that should always be done with a specialist or Parkinson’s nurse so it’s done safely.

It would be really worth speaking to your GP, neurologist or Parkinson’s nurse about this, especially as it’s persistent, as they may be able to review your medication or suggest alternatives.

Hi. 5Months have past and after talking to my gp, neuro nurse and consultant, my meds have been changed, and others added to no avail . the daily headaches persist. I am seeing my consultant again in a few weeks so hope she can come up with something else. Is there anyone else out there who is having this same problem, or am I just the unlucky one.

Hi Dave, headaches can unfortunately be a side effect of carbidopa/levodopa, so it’s certainly worth discussing with your neurologist. There are different formulations and other Parkinson’s medications that a specialist may consider, depending on your symptoms and how you respond.
I’d be interested to hear what others have experienced too, but I wouldn’t stop or change the medication yourself, especially after taking it for a while. Hopefully your doctor can find an alternative or adjust the dose and give you some relief. Weeks of constant headaches definitely deserve a review.
Sorry you’re dealing with this, weeks of constant headaches sounds exhausting. I’d speak to your Parkinson’s team before changing anything, as they may be able to review the medication and suggest an alternative.
