Consultant recommendations (bham/ west mids)

Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum and trying to support my father, who has been living with PD since 2017 and is in need of a new consultant as things aren’t going so well with the current one. I wanted to ask if anyone has a recommendation for a good consultant in Birmingham or the surrounding areas? We are happy to go private to get the support my father needs. Thanks

Hello Chai,

Thanks for getting in touch and we’re sorry to hear this. We’d recommend popping our helpline a call on 0808 800 0303 and having a chat with our team. They may be able to offer some advice and guidance on this.

All the best,
Parkinson’s UK Moderation Team

Hello Chai … I have seen two private neurologists who were both excellent.
My NHS neurologist was less good and left the NHS.

I would contact BUPA and The Nuffield and see one of the neurologists they use.
They often have reviews and ratings.

Best of luck.

Thank you for your replies, and my apologies for the slow reply- I hadn’t realised my post had even been approved to be posted! I will try those avenues, but it’s hard to decipher who is actually ‘good’. I feel like most neurologists have a very production-line approach and aren’t invested in working proactively. I had hoped someone might have a person they have had a good experience with. I will keep looking! Thanks again for taking the time. And best of luck to you too Steve.

Good afternoon Chai … For example this neurologist is based in Birmingham. He is one of five neurologists BUPA use.

All the 4 neurologists I have seen have used the same diagnostic tools.

Best wishes
