Customs Fees on Medical Devices

Hi everyone!

I’m new here and hoping someone knowledgable can answer my query.

I’m in the UK and recently ordered a Vilim Ball. Royal Mail tried delivering it when I was out and left a card, saying that there is a customs fee to pay (along with a Royal Mail handling fee). Together the fees come to about 25% of the price I paid for the device.

I was under the impression that there are no customs fees to pay when buying medical devices for self-treatment when you have PD. Am I wrong about this? Vilimed asked me to complete a VAT exemption form before dispatching my Vilim Ball, but I’m now wondering whether I should also have completed a similar form for customs charges.

Anyone in the UK have experience of this when ordering medical devices from abroad?

Thanks!
Bear

Hi @BearCloud, welcome to the Forum! We really hope you enjoy being part of the community and find it useful.

We are sorry to hear of the difficulty you’ve been having with your delivery and understand how concerning that must be.

We’d recommend speaking to Royal Mail about this as they will be best placed to answer your questions. Alternatively, you can call our free, confidential helpline on 0808 800 0303 and speak to one of our specialists. They will be able to give you more Parkinson’s specific advice and signpost you to the relevant support to help sort the delivery charges.

We hope this is helpful. Please do reach out if there is anything we can do.

Take care,

Parkinson’s UK Moderation Team :blue_heart:
