Hi im going dbs assessment in a couple of weeks . I was asses3 before in tbe local hospital came of my meds the nighr before as planned and the next day my tremors were on holiday but they did rear their ugly head later . Im just worried that thus will happen again and the neuro panel will not see the real tremor in real time and say no yo dbs …am i worrying over nothing x
I completely understand your concern and I’m sorry that you haven’t heard from anyone sooner. The specialist will decide whether you would benefit from deep brain stimulation by looking at your specific symptoms and looking at any additional risks of surgery. Therefore, I wouldn’t be too concerned about the specialist not seeing your tremor because they take other things into consideration regarding your condition. We have more information on the assessment on our website here - https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/information-and-support/deep-brain-stimulation.
If you have any further concerns having read the information above, you are always welcome to have a chat with one of our advisers via our helpline on 0808 800 0303.
Hi Hazewell.
I can see from your recent postings that you are getting really anxious about your approaching DBS Assessment. I just did a search on the forum under “DBS Interview” and found plenty of information which should help to prepare you and may put your mind at rest. Best wishes and “Good Luck” on the day. Gerrard
HI Reah, Its not a NO but will take months for the physology reports to come back so they say. Its my anxiety that is holding me back and my age 53…seems its a bit young for them to do this.
How bad do u need to be !!! makes me sad and hurting
Im really upset as i cannot take sinemet anymore as im so sick when i do and im living on madopar disper’ 2 xpills every 2 -3 hrs to get me through the day.
I have only tremors and they said im phy fit and good and have only got PD mild.
I past the levadopa challenged as i knew i would.
When i take 1 x sinemet 25/100 i go through so many bad times …headaches, muscles hurting, hands curling up like a 100 yr old.
cramps in all muscles, feeling sick, NOT EATING, heart burn, ive lost over a stone,
Im going to see another neuro on thurs,
Illsee what he says and if he can help,
If he cannot i dont know what im going to do next !!!
My goodness, it sounds like you’ve been going through such a rough time and I’m truly sorry to hear that.
I’d suggest that the fact they you are being assessed for a 2nd time means your health care professionals (HCPs) feel this is worthwhile but really the main advice here is that DBS is only carried out after a full and comprehensive assessment as to a person’s suitability for the procedure. Therefore, you must be guided by the team of HCPs assessing you and be prepared to ask for explanations of the procedures and assessment. You can contact our helpline for a more detailed breakdown of this.
If you feel as though your condition has declined rapidly since being taken off your medication, I would also advise you to contact your GP before Thursday if you can, if not, I think it’s definitely a good idea to raise this with your neurologist. In the meantime, we have information on tremor which you can download and print here - https://shop.parkinsons.org.uk/products/tremor-and-parkinson-s.
I hope you are able to get some respite following your appointment on Thursday.
