DBS or MR-guided focused ultrasound thalamotomy

Hello fellow patients,

Sorry if this has already been asked before, but which of the two is better and why and at what stage should one go for it, DBS or MR-guided focused ultrasound thalamotomy.

I read somewhere that Glenn Tipton from Judas Priest has had MR guided forcused ultrasound thalamotomy. Not sure if it’s true or not, but when I saw his performance for a charity song last year, he didn’t look bad at all. It’s been over 15 years for him and he definitely doesn’t look that bad. Please advice.

Thanks in advance.

Hello @fatheroftwo, please don’t apologise for asking questions, that’s exactly what our forum and community are for. Treatments are very person-specific, so it’s helpful to speak to your GP, specialist, or Parkinson’s nurse about what options they think would work best for you and your symptoms.

We have information on deep brain stimulation (DBS) on our website, which you might find helpful in making your decision: Deep brain stimulation | Parkinson's UK

Research from focused ultrasounds has also shown a benefit for people with Parkinson’s with movement problems. You might be interested in reading more about what was found: Focused ultrasound shows promise as a Parkinson’s treatment in new study | Parkinson's UK

We hope the community can share their experiences too.

Take care :blue_heart:
