Hi Candy, can I ask if you filled in a claim on paper or over the phone?
A friend phoned yesterday to ask for the forms to claim and was told she had to do it by phone.
She felt unprepared to answer complex questions there and then and so hung up.
She is very ill and hoped I would help her fill the forms in.
I wondered if she had misunderstood and just had to give the info on her national insurance, doctor's details etc that they started asking and that the questions about her disabilities would come on a form later.
My husband is over 65 and on DLAso he will presumably carry on on that and we have no experience of the new system.
Sorry if i am being rude and butting in , but i can offer a reply to you Goldengirl, yes the initial claim has to be made over the telephone then a part 2 how your condition affects you form will be issued which is the filled in and returned where it will be decided if the claim can be assessed on paper or if a face to face assessment is needed no questions will be asked on the phone about your friends disabilities these do indeed come on the part 2 form , you are correct in thinking that it is doctors details, national insurance bank details that are taken in the initial phone call
Hope this helps , and once again my apologies for butting in
Spot on Shelly you know your stuff and GG please see my post regarding face to face assessments as there is an article were they are saying face to face should not have to be done in cases of severe neurological problems of PD is one of them so will be interesting to see how this claim pans out good luck but get the claim going because its a 26 week process at present...................Paul
From what i understand PIP is not a means tested benefit so it does not matter if her husband works or not , Pip is paid regardless of being in work or not
as Paul said get your friend to start her claim soon as they are taking 26 weeks although mine took nearer the 30 week mark to be sorted but 6 months was spent waiting for a assessment by Capita
I would of given the same answer, We know so much about it we could run it ourselves and I bet we would be more efficient and competent lol,
Yes PIP is not means tested, I hope your friend does not get too stressed filling in the forms and talking on the phone,
Unfortuately your friend is in for a long wait as Shelly says, I applied in January and I still have not had a decision although I am hopeful for one this week
Yes get claiming as soon as possible its got nothing to do with whether the husband is working or not and also has nothing to do with how much savings people have.It is a benefit to provide money to help people remain independent hence the name with respect the doctor is a bit behind there saying you cannot claim so it just shows its always a good idea to check these things out for your self good luck but remember theres no time like the present procrastination is the thief of time.................Paul
Thats good news at last Candy maybe they do care after all I assume he is phoning you because the decision letter takes so long to arrive as it goes bulk mail which can take up to 7 days Wednesday Candy got my fingers and toes crossed for you and I know Shelly will as well. good luck.........Paul
Thanks, I am very nervous because although the finishing post is in sight it certainly isnt a fore gone conclusion and I could still be turned down. But I got to be positive and I can always appeal.
Any news yet Paul, Have they started looking into your appeal yet?
At last Candy , the finishing post is in sight ,as Paul said i will have everything crossed for you and will be thinking of you on Wednesday and i really hope that it is good news , stay positive only one more day
They have had my appeal letter for 1 week now My PDSW tells me it usually takes 2 weeks to get a new decision. I hope it all goes well for you Candy and ask the person who rings you to mail you a copy of your assessment report its very useful to read and see how they reached your decision I cant remember if your saw atos or you were posh like Shelly (lol) and saw Capita. I am out all day tomorrow but look forward to reading your good news I suppose one fine day we could all get together for a bite to eat and a coffee even if we only managed it once a year it would be nice to meet up when this pip nonsense is all sorted and were all as chilled as pd will let us be........................Paul
I am sorry to read that I assume you will appeal I dont know if you applied yourself or did you get some help from your PDSW. Dont give in you have a right of appeal wait and see what is written on your decision letter and how many points were awarded for each activity for daily living and also for your mobility I know your sick to the back teeth of pip but dont give up as they be just trying it on to save money............Paul
So sorry to hear about your decision, when I first applied for mine it was when it was DLA and I was turned down. But I've stuck it out and applied again, only now it's PIP, so I'm hoping to be accepted this time.
Keep fighting and put in that appeal, don't let them walk all over you.
I phoned my support worker and she was disgusted! I am having a call from a case manager tomorrow and she has told me what to say, She said to ask for the mandatory redecision, I beleive this is our right when they have to look at it again,
She told me to to tell him I will be submitting letters from variuos health care professionals,
If they still turn me down then I go for the appeal.
so sorry to hear about ypour decision ,yrs go for a mandatory reconsideration you have to have this before you can appeal , hopefully with the support worker behind you you may get a more favourable outcome , i have a link to another site ill send it in a pm for you there is a lot of valuable advice on the site and some of the members will help you word your reconsideration / appeal
