Lin2 I agree with your post, everyone has an opinion.
Deep breath -- hold it -- and relax.
Thanks for the article cutie.
Thanks for the article cutie.
I urge everyone to watch Superman IV - Quest for Peace.
In it Superman makes a heart wrenching speech to United Nations. The film up to and subsequent to that scene is utter junk.
It's on SKY+ anytime at the moment.
Or here if mods allow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9mIWerpEgg
Its on youtube
So next time anyone plans to write harsh words to another, think, what would Superman do.
p.s. I don't know what he said (I'm watching with the sound off and subtitles unavailable, cos the rest of the house are asleep) but it was good enough for the world to give up its nuke then its bound to be good enough to quell any would be bickerers.
p.p.s. Why are we still paying for trident?

Hi Cutiepie,
You know the score with me,you have been a good friend to me,we have discussed a lot.The article,as you know,i had read it before here.Rays list, how many apply to me,lets just say at least 14.Obviously this is not the place for me to post though.
I scratch my head at that one, anyway, off to my appointment now,3 months after my last, monitoring my medication.Wife in tow,she as you know, will have a lot to say. Thanks for all you have done for me.

Titan
a possible analysis of motivation
ray added some minor information in order to get the topic into latest activity.
titan took the bait and attacked ray thus ensuring ray got what he wanted - a reason to keep adding posts to keep the topic in the front. silly titan.
everyone else joins in this making it unstoppable (good try eck) and so we head down another path to weeks of anguish, resignations, back biting etc.
which is what ray wants as this topic is paramount to him and he will do anything to keep it to the forefront.
the two sides are symbiotic - they need the other side to be there or the thread will die.
i think i can speak for the rest of us to say we are ******* ***** off with this. not with the subject but with the way it is abused.
It is time this was put a stop to by the administration.

Kyloe...Good point,DA's can and do help some pwp,but ROS - that is scary reading and I personally think it may put some pwp off trying them, even though they may help certain individuals. As we all agree no two patients are the same with pd and/or meds. I 'think' there is far more awareness these days about side affects, not only from DA's but most meds we are given.
I've been on them for about a year now!
Like Kyloe said people in this world today don't take DA's,but are more than willing to carry out the side affects.

Hi again.
This thread, in the Parkinson's UK forum, has been located in a section entitled "TREATMENTS".
Not "Pleasurable new hobbies you may wish to consider taking up". Not "Let's have a laugh and a bit of boyish banter". The section is a serious one, discussing treatments for this God-awful condition which has befallen us.
The thread itself, you may have noticed, has carefully and specifically been subtitled "Dopamine Agonists and catastrophic Obsessive/Compulsive Disorders". One of its purposes was/is to catch the eye of newbies who are (or have been) caught up in this horrendous and very frightening world of OCDs.
Also by those who are currently indulging in (for example) gambling in an increasing and uncontrolled way, without it ever having occurred to them that this was linked to their PD medication, BECAUSE NO-ONE EVER WARNED THEM.
SUCH CASES ARE STILL ARRIVING ON A MORE-OR-LESS DAILY BASIS.
I don't believe the titles could be clearer, or misconstrued. No-one is going to enter this thread without knowing what it's about.
Kyloe, the fact that there are non-PD people in the world who indulge in such practices, willingly or obsessively, is not of any interest to us here, and I'd think it highly unlikely that such folk would be reading this forum. You therefore raise the point for no purpose.
THESE OBSESSIONS ARE NOT FUN. THEY'RE BLOODY FRIGHTENING. You're not just having a lark gambling, shopping, having affairs, etc. These chemicals take over your mind and your life totally, 100% of the time. You don't have a clue what it's doing to you or how it will end. By the end of 7 years I was probably involved in over 20 of the items on the list, in a grey and nasty sub-world, having got through hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Yes, Nene, it IS scary reading, but it's a scary subject. Those of a fragile disposition can read the title and skip past, but there are many who need this information desperately. And many amongst us who have GENUINELY been saved by this thread's very exisistence. THAT is why I am so passionate about it.
Ray.

hmmm...good point...
I for one am very grateful to ROS for this thread. My 60 year old brother who lives with PD is up in court tomorrow because of the dreadful things he has done whilst on DA's.
Had I not joined here and read this topic, I would not have understood more about DA's...and the effects it can have on ones life.
It is thanks to ROS, ECK and some of the ladies who posted on this topic, that I could type up what they have said and use it in a positive way to try and help my brother, because without this I would have joined the world of the not knowing what these darned drugs can do to a mild mannered, gentle and kind man pre the drugs given.
People need to know the fors and against these drugs. I am so pleased for the poeple it helps but the people who don't have that need to know before going down the DA path.
Sorry for ranting on, I suppose everything is very raw for our family with the court case to-morrow.

I too hope the court case goes well and send my love.
Surely these last posts show how helpful Ray's continued input is in making people aware of the terrible damage that DAs can do?
The posts attacking the posting of this information seems like posting on a forum for sufferers of lung cancer saying, in effect, "I've smoked for years and have no health problems or just a little cough so stop going on about lung cancer">
Ray and others are trying to get people who "smoke" to be alert to the early symptoms and seek help. If they choose to carry on "smoking", at least they have the scientific facts and statistics to consider the dangers. My husband and I will never forget what Ray, Glenchass and many others did to guide and support us through the nightmare. Please let them continuein peace.

Goldengirl, I totally agree with what you have said, I certainly would not have aware of the drugs my brother was on had I not poked my nose into this forum.
I thank you very much for your kind words.

If ROS didn't feel so aggrieved he wouldn't feel the need to be so vociferous.
He deserves the utmost respect for the number of souls he has saved by way off making sense of the state you are in whether carer or pwp. I make no apology for stating I ws ready to give up the ghost. All hope was gone. What had I become, why was I acting the way I was?? I had become a monster in Mrs Eck's eyes. To all intents and purposes I was already dead.
Obviously if he has cheesed you off your not going to see it that way. If he shows scant regard to the way people feel about the topic that, some will shout "fowl". So how does he get the message across to those who have been neglected and are destroying themselves and those they love? Give us solutions. Don't kid on it's all OK. Don't guess with peoples lives. If someone reads of the trials and tribulations of a person who has been messed up
a) they can poo poo it, doesn't recognise themselves in the story
b) they recognise themselves and gain understanding and are moved to get help
c) they are forewarned and if they are told they are acting out of character they may be moved to seek help if probs start to manifest later on.
d) the carer will know they are not going off their head. The relationship may be salvaged.
e) they get a fright. But then they will have got a fright anyway cos this condition is just one fright after another. i remember my 3rd fall. It came hot on the heels of falls one and two. I thought "What the eff now". You learn to cope. (That's a topic in itself).
One criticism I do have of Ray - you can be a tad harsh and you missed ****** from the list.
More deep breathing. Calm yer wee selves. Superman loves us, even if you feel ROS or Titan don't.
As for me, I have a whole heap of love and respect for us all. Be nice to yourself and each other.

Hi Eck.
*******(there is no T) is not on the list because no-one has ever reported getting into it as a direct result of a DA/OCD case.
