Dopamine creation and release

Hello all,

I’m 50, was diagnosed 4 years ago, been on Ropinerole since then, and started on Sinemet 5 months ago.

I’m trying to get my head around how dopamine works.

Is creation different to release?
Is it released as soon as it is created or is it stored up like a battery?
When I exercise is that creation or release?
When I am at work, if I get stressed, does that ‘burn-up’ dopamine?

Hope that makes sense. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sam

Hi and welcome to the forum @SamHouse. We have a very friendly group of members here and I’m sure they will soon jump in to share their own experiences with Dopamine agonists, such as Ropinerole. The best person to speak to, of course, is your GP or Parkinson’s nurse.

Since Parkinson’s symptoms appear when the brain can’t make enough dopamine to control movement properly, these drugs trick your brain into thinking they are dopamine and therefore can reduce your symptoms. You can read more about this here.

Please feel free to explore our website. As well you can speak to our local advisers for support and information on 0808 800 0303.

Take care,
Janice
