Does anyone here still Drive? If so what Aids are there please?
Welcome back, @AdamWolsey88. That’s a great question, and I’m sure others here will be happy to share their thoughts and experiences with driving.
Many people with Parkinson’s do continue to drive. It really depends on how your symptoms affect you personally.
There’s information on driving, including practical tips and support on this page.
It’s also important to let the DVLA know about a Parkinson’s diagnosis, but this doesn’t automatically mean you have to stop driving - many people carry on safely for years.
If you’d like to talk it through, our helpline is here too: 0808 800 0303.

Parkinson’s UK Moderation Team
Hi Adam,
I have had Parkinsons diagnosed in 2023 but probably had it from a couple of years earlier.Informed DVLA and they checked with my Parkinsons team ok to drive and renewed it for 3 years. Its now due for renewal and the Parkinson’s nurse’s said there should be no problem with renewing it again.Having Parkinsons does not effect my insurance either as long as its noted and to be quite honest if anything it makes me drive more carefully.Perhaps in the future I might swap my manual car to an automatic depending how things progress. If at any time I don’t feel confident to drive I will stop however as I am under really caring and helpful Parkinsons nurses it gives me confidence to carry on driving…
