Drug combination in new diagnosis

Hello to all.
I was diagnosed in February this year though I knew something was wrong with my body a couple of years earlier and ignored it. At the point of diagnosis I was given safinamide, and told it may slow the progression and it was early stages. I recently rang my pd nurse due to getting more constipated and getting more unstable, especially on the standard uk footpaths these days. She muttered something along the lines of adding Amantadine and has booked me an appointment for next month. I was just wondering if any others are on this combination of drugs and what should I expect.

Thanks.

From the BNF on uses of safinimide:
“Parkinson’s disease, as an adjunct to levodopa alone or in combination with other antiparkinsonian drugs, for mid- to late-stage fluctuations”
From that I would not have expected the drug to be prescribed on its own. Perhaps it should have been prescribed with one of the many levodopa preparations.
