Entacapone

Entacapone 200mg made by teva seems to be out of stock. Does pduk have any news on this please

Hello @gus and thank you for your post.

I have looked at this for you and, at the moment, I can’t seem to find any current information to indicate that there is a widespread supply problem with this medication.

I am sorry I cannot give you a definitive answer at the moment however I have flagged this for one of my colleagues to see if they have any further information and I’m sure they will be in touch as soon as they can if they have anything to add.

In the meantime, if you continue to have difficulty getting hold of this medication, I would like to suggest you make contact with your health professionals to ask them for advice on how to proceed in terms of your ongoing treatment.

If you would like to discuss this with someone in more detail you can also make contact with our free helpline - our friendly advisers are ready to provide information and support on any aspect of life with Parkinson’s and can also arrange to put you in contact with a Parkinson’s Specialist nurse if required. Hi @gus,

Hope you’re well today. :slightly_smiling_face:

As promised, my colleague has looked into this and she recommends that you encourage your pharmacist to order from AAH (a wholesalers) as they seem to have the medication you’re looking for in stock.

I hope this is helpful information to you.

Best wishes,
Reah

so maybe suggest to Gus that when he goes to his pharmacist he encourages them to order from there.

Yep done the trick :ok_hand: many thanks to you & pduk

Glad it worked out for you @gus. :slightly_smiling_face:

My local Chemist has not been able to supply the full amount of
Entacapone and has supplied a part of the amount prescribed. This was 2 weeks ago. Is there a shortage and if so is there an alternative?

AAH ( pharmaceutical company) ask chemist for this supplier

Hi @Steppy,

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been having trouble with obtaining Entacapone. I’ve spoken to our nurse co-ordinator and they’ve advised that you may be able to obtain Comtess (a brand of Entacapone). However, you may need to ask your GP to prescribe this.

With regard to an actual shortage, there has been reported shortages of entacapone, but there is stock in wholesalers. It’s worth encouraging the pharmacist to talk to the range of wholesalers they have accounts with, rather than just the usual one they use.

If you’d like to speak to someone about this, please give our helpline a call on 0808 800 0303.

Best wishes,
Reah

I have spoken to my local chemist who advised he has tried AAH and other wholesalers with no success. He has asked my GP to advise an alternative to Entacapone whilst it is not available.

My chemist has only got half mine aswell luckily I have stocked.up on mine, from last time…hopefully I will have enough

Hi @Steppy,

Sorry that my suggestion about AHH was unsuccessful - please do give our helpline a call for more support on this.

Best wishes,
Reah

I have obtained Entacapone from Rolands Chemist at Witney who had it in stock. The wholesalers (Mylan) advise it should be generally available again from Sep 14th. Thank you PUK for your help in obtaining the Entacapone.

That’s great news thanks

You’re welcome, @Steppy. I’m glad we were able to help you out. :slightly_smiling_face:

My chemist seem to be able to get hold of entacapone made by mylan, but seems there is a problem with suppliers teva can pduk advise what’s the difference is as I have had problems with generic drugs before and this is why I have the Teva brand. Is mylan generic and if so have you any ideas what’s happening with Teva.many thanks
