Ethics meat and veg

I’m a new to PD and possibly MSA. My husband and I have been bouncing the future of each other and one thing that has come up is the fact he’s a veggie and I eat meat, When it come to the time that I can no longer cook should I become a veggie so husband doesn’t have to prepare and cook meat for me.

Hi i think there are a lot of variables with this.

-Does your LO mind cooking meat (i know some do and dont)

-How old are you both and how are the symptoms progressing (issue could be a long way away yet)

-Are you open to trying out the vegan/vegetarian diet or at least try to reduce meat consumption over time

-Are there easier options out there e.g. ready meals you can order with and without meat, therefore not actually handling meat

This might be something that evolves over time but only you know how strongly your LO feels about it and what changes you are willing to make

He’s not sure about if he could cook meat,

I’m 56 and he’s 63, The consultant is concerned that the symptoms are progressing faster than should for someone my age, hence the possible MSA

I have reduced my meat consumption to 4 times a week

There are ready meals but we would like to keep ready meals to the minimum as they tend to be less healthy .

My husband( diagnosed 10 years) weight has dropped 4 stones in 9 months, so the most important thing is to prevent further weight loss (he wasnt overweight)
You need to eat foods you enjoy to keep your interest in meals. Could someone else prepare food to be frozen and heated. Easy to eat mince&tatties, corn beef hash. It is possible to get paid carers who are able to prepare proper meals here. I hope you have that option. Going vegetarian whilst living with Parkinson’s seems too much to ask

@Aileen Thank you for your ideas

You don’t have to change your diet just because you might need help later on. Maybe you could plan some easy, make-ahead meals or frozen options for the meat-eater days.
