Hi,
Does anyone have any tips for keeping/improving dexterity for playing musical instruments. I’m struggling mainly with one hand. I’m interested in anything that would help, pre play warm up, physio routines etc.
Thanks

Hello jjc,
Thank you for getting in touch and we’re sure our wonderful forum members may have some peer to peer advice for you.
In the meantime, we actually have some information on this on our website which may help - you can find this here: Dexterity and Parkinson's | Parkinson's UK .

Which instruments which hand?
My problems are in the right hand so for guitar is my strumming hand. I use a hand squeezer for strength and bounce a basketball for rhythm.
for piano I spend 5-10 minutes on laptop typing ‘the quick brown foxes jump over the lazy dog’
for drums I now have the snare in line with 2nd Tom so I don’t have to twist as much to get to the floor Tom. Kick pedal on the left foot and keep hi hat closed and don’t use it open.
Thanks very much, it’s my right hand and it’s for clarinet and saxophone. Dexterity is shot in right hand, don’t think it’s strength it’s as if signals are getting crossed or blocked altogether.
