Furniture hoping

At present WWP on 4 x 25/100 co-careldopa.
Afer a year on it, taken off Rasagiline on Jan as it didnt appear to make any difference.
Gait had been gradually getting worse and now needs to ‘furniture hop’ to get around the house and outside needs to hold on to me.
Can the gait be helped by the increase on medication?

Hello helfrase … I have Atypical Parkinson’s & Neuropathy. I take 6 x co-caroldopa a day. I also furniture hop with my Atypical Parkinson’s & Neuropathy.

Might you have Neuropathy ? [up to 55% of people with Parkinson’s have Neuropathy]. I am treated for this with Amitriptyline.

Has the furniture hoping got any better?

Good afternoon helfrase … Furniture hopping seems to a permanent feature of my life indoors. There is something about sitting down that seems to affect me. When I stand up I am stiff & that doesn’t go away until I get outside & walk say 20-50 yards.

Also when I get up in the night to pee I am unstable & I feel falling over is likely unless I concentrate. I keep my walking stick by my bedside to help.

I haven’t seen a Neurologist for 12 months. It certainly feels as though we are on our own unless we get ill.

Do you get to see a parkinsons nurse?

Yes, I’m seeing mine in October. I do feel the 6 pills of Sinemet [Co-Careldopa] a day that I am on is the correct drug & dosage.

As well as Atypical Parkinson’s [confirmed by a Datscan] I have [confirmed by ACH/NCS tests] Neuropathy. Either could be causing the furniture hopping. I am on drugs for both that work. I have tried taking double the dose of Amitriptyline [for Neuropathy] but it makes me too tired.

Every drug has a side effect & I have to weigh up the advantages v disadvantages.
