my 79 year old father has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, 6 months ago. His symptoms are mainly his left hand shaking. He has been taking meds for the past month and after seeing his doctor today, the dose has been increased as the severity of the tremors has increased in the span of 6 months.
To support the medicine, I have read that wrist weights can help. Can anyone please help me with which ones, the type, brand and what to look for when selecting the correct type? I want to help him but don’t have any information on how to select the best ones which will help him. . I also need to know where to buy them.
If there is something better than wrist weights, I am open to suggestions.
Hi, @Reh30 and a very warm welcome to the forum firstly - I’m glad you’ve found us.
It’s lovely that you’re looking for ways to support your dad following his diagnosis. Hopefully some of our members can share their thoughts on aids or techniques they’ve found helpful for managing tremor.
I would say that before buying any equipment, it would be a good idea for your dad to speak to his Parkinson’s team or an occupational therapist. Parkinson’s affects everyone differently, and an occupational therapist can look at how his tremor affects him and suggest equipment or strategies that are suitable.
We also have some information on our website about tremor, including things that may help with managing it, which you might find useful.
You’re also very welcome to contact our helpline on 0808 800 0303 if you’d like to talk anything through or have questions about supporting your dad.
I hope this helps and that you find the community a helpful and supportive place. And please do keep us posted on how your dad gets on
