Head/neck Jerking

Good morning all.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s last year at 34. I’ve started with a new symptom and whilst I’ve reported this to the nurses I just wondered if anyone else had experienced similar.

I have a violent head jerk that turns my head to the side (predominantly the right side) which occurs every few seconds. It’s very difficult to do anything such as eating, drink and walking especially as the constant movements make me dizzy and I cannot focus on where I’m walking due to the constant head jerks. Obviously it’s painful too but that’s the least of my worries!

Has anyone experienced this at all? Anything to help ease the symptoms? Nurses have said already it doesn’t appear to be a medication related thing. I’m waiting for an appointment with them but this could take up to 3 weeks. I have two young children with autism so it’s making my caring related duties extremely difficult so any advice is welcomed.

Thanks in advance

I’m 51 and newly diagnosed. I have head/jerks to the right side too. Mine aren’t that bad though, usually happens mostly in the evening when watching to or reading. Not sure what you can do, sorry I’m not any help x

I am being driven mad by restless leg syndrome at the moment - it is literally unrelenting, and the jerking movement you describe sounds similar, do you think it is the same thing happening in a different part of the body? It might be worth asking your doctor. They told me that these movements could be due to medication (in which case, can try altering dosage) or just a part of Parkinson’s (in which case, looking at relaxation techniques etc. The mindfulness audio on this website is very, very helpful too!

I believe the medication can cause jerking movements, dyskinesia I think
