Hello to this group. I’m so grateful to have found this group. My husband was diagnosed today. I am 47, he is 57. I am looking for any help or advice. The doctor we saw today seemed positive. He started medication today (simenet) and will sart physio. Do we need to tell the DVLA? Any help and advice would be really appreciated. Thank you xx
Hello YP … Sorry to hear your news. I am 70 & was diagnosed with Parkinson’s following a positive Datscan in June 2023.
Yes, you do have to inform the DVLA as I did. I now have a 3 year medical driving licence. I would also tell your insurance company. For me there was no increase in premium & the DVLA were fine with me. As long as he is fit to drive, in the opinion of his medical team, he will be allowed to drive.
I have also had a 6 x 1 hour course with a neurological physiotherapist which was worth while. I am on Sinemet which helps my symptoms.
Any questions please ask.
Best wishes
