Help with Mym

Hi Folks. I’m new here, and have come across this helpful forum in trying to find a solution for everyday living for my 73yo Mum who is living with advanced Parkinsons. (She was diagnosed with it at 43yo)
I looking for some advice…
My Mum lives in her own home with another elderly family member but is now experiencing intermittent falls and is in Hospital currently with a badly dislocated shoulder following a recent fall.
She like to remain in her own home as long as possible but is starting to need more care than the live in family member can offer, as she also has her own medical issues.
I am trying to find out if there are any options for care in her own home and would welcome any advice regarding this as I’m feeling a little lost as what to do?
Many thanks.

Hello John … I am 70 years old & live alone in a 1 bed flat. I too have Parkinson’s.
First thing I’d do is talk to the hospital & get their opinion.
Is her home suitable for day to day living? Can it be altered to help her continue to live there?

How about her moving to a ground floor flat? Or somewhere with assisted living?

Then there is the possibility of having a live in carer.

Clearly things cannot remain as they are & she will continue to have falls & her elderly family member cant really help.

Why not talk to her GP about having someone in to assess her needs?

You should contact the PCN care network … as I did.

Best of luck.

Hi Steve, thank you very much for your reply and sorry to hear you’re also living with this disease.
Mum has a reasonably good set up at home as in a fairly large downstairs room with easy access to toilet, shower room etc. I would certainly consider a live in carer for her if this is possible in order to keep her in her home as long as possible.
Thank you for your link to the Nhs primary care i will look into this.
Meanwhile is this the place to go to ask about ‘live in care’ ? Thank you.

Morning John … Yes I would ask the local PCN people I sent you the link for. The helpline here might also be useful 0808 800 0303

Best of luck
