I live with my 87 yr old mum who has PD. The symptom that we are both struggling with is anxiety. She has just been prescribe Metra-something but not started yet. The anxiety is difficult to cope with - brings in very low moods, feeling of doom and lots of ailments that aren’t ‘real’ she has had a lot of tests by the docs to make sure they aren’t missing anything else.
Any advice on how I can help her? I am her daughter btw…and trying to balance caring and a very full on FT jib as the bill payer.
We’re sorry to hear this. Our wonderful forum members may be able to offer you some peer to peer support with this. But till then we have some information on our website that may help here: Anxiety | Parkinson's UK - we’d also recommend speaking to your mum’s GP or healthcare professional regarding these concerns for a medical reassessment.
Good evening. The first thing to say is that getting to 87 is very impressive. I bet she has had a wonderful life. Although obviously this last bit has been a bit tiresome.
I am single & 71, diagnosed with Parkinson’s in June two years ago.
I have quite a lot wrong with me. Symptoms of this and that. I have seen 4 private consultants in the last 6 months. Nothing achieved, waisted my time really.
I am due to get the results of an Mri brain scan shortly. My left leg from the knee down
was numb and my big toe hurt, been like that for nearly a year. But I woke about a week
ago & the numbness & pain has almost completely gone. No idea why.
So I have decided not to bother about my ailments. Worrying achieves nothing.
I have had nightmares, restless legs, fatigue & have felt very down with my life. I cannot walk very far & any walking I can do is not comfortable. So I spend most of my life in my flat.
I was a golfer but had to give that away. But I have discovered Indoor Bowls & it is now my life & I look forward to every day I am competing.
Your Mum does need things to look forward to. Maybe do something you would both like to do once a week, put it in the diary & look forward to it.
