Hi from a newbie

Hi,
I was diagnosed with PD this week, and despite having a tremor in my right had for 9 months, it came a a shock. It was initially diagnosed as essential tremors, but a neurologist felt I had all the classic symptoms. I’m 58 and still working, hopefully for as long as I can. I am not on any meds yet.
I was initially floored by the news, but the generally positive attitude from the PD community has settled my anxiety somewhat and I feel more optimistic about the future.

Hi Jools,
Have had a similar experience to you had a stiff left arm that shook at times since start of last year. Told by 3 doctors it was an essential tremor on 3rd visit asked to be referred saw the neurologist in mid November within 10 mins said Parkinsonism have been in a state of shock since but beginning to come to terms with it now. I am 45 recently made redundant so looking for new job.
Thanks

Hi JD2024,
Thanks for sharing your experience. Good on you for persisting, whilst it’s not news we particularly welcome, at leat we know what we’re dealing with now.
The redundancy was horrible timing, you’re dealing with a lot right now, and I wish you all the best with the job hunt.

Thanks Jools,
Are you having any follow up scans to confirm PD? They sometimes send you for MRI or DAT scan? + are you not on meds as your tremor isn’t too sever yet?

Hi, I was diagnosed on 17th of this month as idiopathic Parkinson’s. I started meds straight away. Either I’m dealing with this really well or I’m not taking it in, not too sure at the moment.

I am working a part time job which I am managing well and hope to continue for as long as possible.

Hi
I suppose my tremor isn’t severe, I have nothing to compare it with really, it makes using my hand awkward sometimes, but I’ll just ask for help if I need it.
I have a follow up with the consultant in 6 months, but nothing has been mentioned about scans. I also have a bit of an issue with speech at times and my right foot is weak.
I’ve seen mention of these scans on the forum and had to google it, but I’m still not sure what the purpose is. Do the use it for diagnosis or monitoring progression of the condition etc?
Thanks
Julie

Hi Hannah,
I feel the same, I’m not sure what your symptoms are, but I just felt it explained a lot and in a way I felt better that it wasn’t me being clumsy or stupid, especially in situations when I take a random step in a different direction when I’m walking! :joy:

I’m having various symptoms from handwriting getting smaller, walking gait smaller, right arm little to no swing. Some loss of smell, night sweats too.

I walk miles everyday with my dogs, no problem. When it comes to walking up stairs that’s a different matter. I feel as it’s a great effort to go up and down too.

Life sucks, but i just fight through the bad days and treat myself to a Greggs hot chocolate as a reward :yum:

I have the same symptoms except the loss of smell. I have also tremors in my right hand and my speech is a little affected.
I’m still managing to work and get out and about.
I love your idea of a treat, I might treat myself to a Greggs hot chocolate too! And maybe a sausage roll! :grinning:
